Want to ge GPS for the coach to integrate with computer. Understand the Pilot 2002 is about the best but am told it sold for $300 at the last Rally yet Camping World wants about $1000 for it. Anyone have any experience with this or other makes, and know of a source of prucurement at Rally prices ? Please respond to Bodie6413@... (Bodie6413@...). thanks

The GARMIN Street Pilot works great with a computer. I use it with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002 (approx. $20.).
It is also a stand alone unit so when you are not using it with a computer the GAMIN can be mounted so that you have a full function color screen 3"x4" directly on the unit.
The price is approximately $350.00.

GPS have been discussed on the Diesel-RVs group several times. I was interested in the Co-Pilot 2002 myself but found out just when I was ready to place the order that it does not work well with Windows XP which I have on my laptop.
Many prefer Garmin but if you really like the Co-Pilot you may want to wait a little longer and buy the 2003 version, provided of course, that the XP-conflict has been removed. I decided to do just that.
There is a version of the Co-Pilot program for professional truckers that you don't find advertised in RV magazines. I looked into that and found that the "regular" version is more in line with what we RV-ers want. So, I wait to see what the 2003 version can and cannot do.

Jeff

Hi GPS folks,
Consider this approach: A Garmin 35N (Marine version - $180)receiver/antenna mounted inside the roof forward of the front TV provides the navigation input for Delorne Street Atlas windows application ($50 retail)for map and navigation. The Garmin serial data output is converted to USB for connection to the computer (IO Gear serial to USB adapter - $30). The Map display can be full screen or split screen with other displays using the windows capability. The Silverleaf interface box ($400) provides engine and transmission displays for one of the other displays.
The software application is free. A third display is via a 12 bit A/D converter (my design $50) connected to a USB port for other coach parameters such as fluid levels, voltage levels and current draw (sensors range from $20 to $200). All can be individually displayed or split screened for one display using windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT or XP. I use a notebook - has 3 USB ports ($1000) or a LED monitor ($300) driven by a PC (tower) - has 6 USB ports ($700). Each display is mounted on an aluminum frame with twin fans (each homemade - $35)for cooling when positioned on the dash so they function in full sunlight without frying.
So you have a choice: map & navigation, add engine & transmisiion displays, add other coach parameter displays for alot less than what Country Coach prices are.
