PTO Report on "wet Kit"

If you have not read the post and pictures on the PTO, delete this post. I was at Colton Truck this AM. First the PTO was slide back and inspected. Shaft had 20,000 miles and showed no wear or rust or any discoloration. The "wet Kit" allows for oil to run onto the shaft and receiver. Upon examination the original PTO casting as a partial machine pocket for the same brass insert that is in the kit. There were no threads added to the pocket. So my conclusion is that someone just forgot to thread the casting or the threads were not added through some design change. The situation is odd, you wonder why start to machine the pocket if you don't plan to finish with a tread. It was a very quick look as the mechanic was putting the unit together, so I could be wrong, and often that is the case.
Anyway have piece of mind, get the inspection then decided if you need the wet kit, or have a damaged pump.
On another note, and unhappy CC owner was there with a Intrigue that had been towed. The tow driver hook up the coach using the A arms that work with the steering. Needless to say the tow bent the arms, big repair, and one more unemployed tow truck driver. If you are not being towed on a flat bed, then make sure he is using a tire cradle to support the weight.
Another smaller issue. Cummings ISL engines may developed a small leak around the pan. There is a fix for the leak and it is under warranty for 5 years. My repair will cost me $100.00 due to age. The whole pan comes down, and new gasket and bushings are installed. Kit is not standard, so if you see some leakage when parked, you may also want to get it fixed just to eliminate the mess. I will take pictures when mine is repaired this Friday.

Colton Truck is doing about 5 PTO checks, and "wet Kits" per week. Inspection, removal, and installation of kit take just over three hours. Colton does one other thing that I like, and that is if something else does not look correct, they pointed out and let you make a decision. I was originally there for service and PTO. While doing the service Colton found my oil pan was leaking at the gasket. Under the Cummins prorate warranty, one additional appointment and that has now been fixed, total time about 4 hours, my cost $100.00.
The place is a truck repair and RV engine facility. So bring a book and plan to read, or sleep, there is no waiting room. The mechanics let you know what is going on, and there estimates of time are usually pretty close if there are no parts issues. The shop rate is $115.00 per hour. I have decided to keep my service money in CA. and will not stop in Junction City this year for service.
Oh, and Colton still believes in a test drive to insure all is well.
