Shower Door Latch

Yahoo Message Number: 60410
I have a 2005 Intrigue 42' OVTS. The latch that holds the shower door shut is working perfectly. However, the black finish on the latch is starting to wear off and the "lovely" pot metal is showing through almost completely. I would like to replace the latch if possible. I have tried a Google search for shower door latches and have looked at many, many online, but none that appear to be an exact replacement. Has anyone had to replace the latch and, if so, where did you purchase same? I don't know about you, but it irritates me to no end to buy an expensive motorhome and find parts made out of pot metal!

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

I am not any help with your latch, but fully understand your frustration. I broke the external "shower" hot and cold faucet in the water bay, and priced an exact replacement (plastic and all) at about $6. I installed a REALLY upgraded pot metal faucet at about $12, that has worked fine. My "latch" for the shower is actually a magnetic strip that holds the door shut.
The black finish might be renewed with a tough paint, or there is gun "blacking" heat cured paint that will last longer than the rest of the coach. It is not as tough as a Glock finish, but nearly. You can find that at Brownells.
When I browse forums I am amazed at the problems most other RV makers saddle their customer with. My little aggravations are mainly caused by age, disuse, and normal wear and tear. In a perfect world none of this stuff would break, but superior engineering makes fixing stuff more straight forward. I am the third owner, and very impressed with Country Coach.

Brian,

I have a 2004 Ovation and have ordered replacement parts for the shower door towel bar and the latch itself (as a spare) as follows:
Shower Towel Bar - American Shower Door (1-800-421-2333)(Rigo) - #33239-004TB Satin Door latch: They call it a "Travel lock for trailers". The numbers on the box are 113333 and 1-H88-TLBL.
Assuming they did not change manufacters from 2004 to 2005 this might help you.

Jim,

Thanks for the info. Kevin Waite contacted me off of the Yahoo Group and has found a replacement which he his sending me to try out. His may require a slight modification. Do you know (which you may not since yours are spares) if the latches are an EXACT replacement for the original? I've made note of the name and number of your supplier and will try them if I think the modification is too risky.

Thanks again,

Brian Davis
