Info on C-10 Cat

Yahoo Message Number: 54868
I finally changed out the two sensors that go to the infamous fan controller to address the dust storm. I have definately solved the fan speed issue, but my engine/transmission temperatures have changed. I am hoping someone on the forum has the C-10 equipped with a Silverleaf that can give me their operating temperatures. While cruising at 65mph, I am seeing 194 to 202 degrees on the coolant, a steady 205 degrees on the transmission. All of this is at an outdoor temperature of 50 degrees. I am hoping these temps are more normal than I was getting before. I have increased my mpg without that fan locked up, but I am a little concerned when I tow and hit Summer temperatures.I realize these temps are well within safe parameters, but I would like a comparison with a similar coach.

Thank you.

Hi Fred

We have 2001 Magna with C-10 CAT and from memory your temps are within 2 deg. of what I remember. Logs are in the coach in storeage now but can check them after Christmas and get back to you off line if that will help. I would like to compare other service items with you if you will permit. BTW our coach is 36' with 1 slide & 102K miles on the clock.

I just came over Donner pass east bound today and my temp's > run 188 degrees to 194 degrees. Several years ago in Montana North of Helena. I had problems with over heating. I disconnected the fan control 12 volt power input and was able to travel on to my destination. I had tech check all the input sensors. Found all with in specs. I reconnected 12 volt input to fan control and all has been ok since. I have traveled that same route another time and no problem.

Fred...

This past summer I had Ring Power of Brooksville, Fl flush my cooling system and put in ELC...
To make sure the system had no air and was operating OK they ran the C10 at 1300 RPM for over an hour... Their computer showed that the C10 ran between 192 and 198 degrees for the entire time... They verified the temperature with a lazer thermometer trained on the thermostat housing and it agreed with the computer...
I don't have the Silverleaf, but when driving, I set my cruise at 1300 rpm which is 63+ mph and my engine temp gauge reads between 195 and 205 degrees...
I have the Allison 4060 transmission, and the transmission temp runs between 190 and 195 degrees...
Sounds to me like you are in the ballpark... possibly your dash gauges read a little high like mine do.
