Concord Electric Antenna>?

Yahoo Message Number: 55144
I have this electric tv antenna (Concord), It has 4-buttons on the controller. Raise, Travel, Turn and Return., I can't seem to find any paper work or manual but this thing wants to go down in the wrong place, like hanging off the side of the coach etc., it may be the way we are pushing the buttons, does any one know the correct procedure to work this thing., It goes up and down ok and it turns ok, just does not want to rack up right sometimes... any help would be appreciated..

There is a spring at the base of the arm that gets weak and causes the problem you are describing. To test this put pressure on the arm while the return button is pushed. TO fix this either put shims under the spring or by a new spring.

Thanks to all you guys, the response has been great, I have the manual downloaded now and will try some of the troubleshoot items as soon as I can. I have to find a ladder to get on the roof. I have been planning to install a permanent ladder but have just put it off, I guess now is a good time to think more on that... Maybe some one can suggest a good quality ladder? I have looked at some but were not all that impressed., I could get away with just the short piece since I do carry a step ladder.
But thanks again and I will post the results when I get it fixed. We are in location now to use the Sat so not exactly important at the moment. Thanks guys..

Marvin,

I had the same problems when I purchased my 2000 Affinity two years ago. I lubricated the gear train teeth with lithium base grease. Same for bearing surface and still had the problem. Detected a weak spring(s) that put torsion on the "idler" (single) leg so I called customer service at 1-888-367-6978 to order new ones. The service rep suggested that I first try bending them myself in the direction of adding more spring pressure. I managed to do that somehow without disassembly using a screwdriver and vise grips and it fixed the problem. There has to be enough tension on the spring, so that when you are going to travel mode, it causes the base to rotate against an internal "stop" in the "fore & aft" position because that is the least effort and then, when rotation stops, the motor overcomes the spring pressure to lower the antenna until the limit switch is activated.
It really is a nice simple system!
Sometime before I became the owner the antenna "head" attachment "tabs" were broken and repaired in a make do fashion. (Assume someone tried to travel without placing the antenna in the travel position.) Recently the repair failed and I ordered a new head from customer service. Again I found their service support to be top notch and their pricing reasonable and their shipping prompt.

Good Luck!
