Silver Leaf VMSpc & Oil Pressure

I need to reopen a five year old thread because through 13 messages, I don't believe one of the questions was answered.
I just purchased a VMSpc, installed it and think it is the cat's meow. However, the oil pressure reads 55 regardless of what the engine is doing. I called Silver Leaf and they said it is a problem with the sender (sensor) in the Cumminns ISC. I spoke with Cummins and although I am waiting for the top trouble shooter to call me back, they feel that unless the sender has gone bad, there is no reason it shouldn't work. The thought process is, how could a mechanic do a computer check and not get variations in PSI?

What say, anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone solved it?

I sold the country coach and loaned the vmspc to a friend but my triptek and the vmspc both showed 55 on digital but shows from 25 to 60 on the analog guage. I was told by cummins that the sensor just showes pressure not a readable value. Don

The Cummins ECU reports oil pressure as binary. Oil pressure is either okay or not okay. If it is okay it sends 55 PSI to the Silverleaf. If it is not okay it reports 0 PSI. Silverleaf simply takes data from the ECU so what you see is what you get.
This is not a problem it is the way it is. An owner can install a separate sensor but I have no idea how to integrate it with the Silverleaf.

There are two sensors, one is merely an on/off switch (this is the one one that goes to the dash gauge). The other is apparently a three wire (this is the one that goes to the ECU and thus the Silver Leaf).

George, this is not the way mine is set up. My dash gauge is analog with a full sweep display. For example, when I do a cold start the pressure is in the 75 psi range. A warm engine running at 1600 RPM will show about 35 PSI. Hot engine at idle shows about 10 PSI. Under all the above circumstances the Silverleaf shows 55 PSI. I no longer bother to display the oil pressure on my siverleaf.

On our 2004 Cummins ISL 400-2, the digital readout for oil pressure is varible from 0 to 80 lbs.

There are two sets of data leads coming off the ISL 400-2 engine, the J 1587 data leads and the J1939 data leads. Depends on which set of data leads the Silverleaf is connected to.

I understand that George. The ECM outputs in the Cummins engines are not coach manufacturer specific. Its how the manufacturer of the coach and the display manufacturer used the two ECM data outputs which are programable. The same question was asked on a Monaco owners group recently. sic.

I'm OK with 55 or 0 on the silverleaf if that is the way it is and I can use my dash gauge needle to verify things as well. I would like to know however at what point the engine sends a not OK? Is it 10, 15, 0 or what. Is there a way to answer that question? Or is this a question to present to the proper Cummins people? Or is it simply enough to say when the oil pressure on the silverleaf goes 0 shut this wagon train down now. (Which is what I'm going to do).

Believe it or not, I just got off the phone with the "top guy" at Cummins.
He tells me it is something we have to live with. Cummins changed senders because they were having too many problems. The new sender will only give 55 on the ECU. If, God forbid, the pressure drops to 10, the sender will put a message on the dash and, he thinks the Silver Leaf as well.

The Silverleaf is not connected to either set of data leads. It is connected to the engine ECU.
The ECU on a CC with a Cummins does not host the variable data that others may. The fix may be as simple as sending the variable data from the dash gauge sender to the ECU but I doubt it.

Steve, I think that this is a question for Cummins to answer. I also think that should the oil pressure input go to 0 the engine will shut down on its own.
