My Horrible Experience

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. I came down here to London, United Kingdom for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the park of the hotel where I stayed, all cash, credit card and cell phone were stolen off me but luckily for me I still have my passport with me.

I have been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and my flight leaves in few hours from now but I'm having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until I settle the bills,

I need urgent help.I'm freaked out at the moment.

I have a kitchen ceiling fan with rain sensor, I think it is a Fantastic (original 1998 model) that came with the coach. The motor that raises the plastic hood runs continually without raising the cover, this motor won't shut off in any of the three positions (Auto/Off/Manual). The fan will not run in any setting; I assume this happens when the cover is closed. I tried raising the cover from above but it won't budge.
1. How can I raise the hood manually?
2. Where is the fuse for this fan?
3. Is there a common problem with these fans?
4. Is there a quick fix?

Those fans are guaranteed for life. Call the company. Do you have the original literature for the fans, to get contact information? Buddies 99 had problems, he called and was told they had lifetime guarantee and shipped him free parts. I have one that does not always open the first time.

Paul...

Call or email Fantastic Fan and explain your problem to them. They will send you the parts you need to fix it at no charge... not even a postage charge...

Fantastic Fan service is Fantastic!
I have no connection with Fantastic Fan other than to use their product, and to call on them for advice and parts...

Paul,

I can tell you where my fuse is located. It is right up in the fan housing and appears as a round knob. If you turn the knob it will drop down and the fuse is inside. It should turn counter clockwise to loosen.
You can supposssidly raise the cover by hand by removing the cover over the gear housing. It is usually in one corner of the fan housing help by 2 screws. I have never done it but Google Fantastic Fan and see if there is an owners manual online.
Everything that people are telling you about Fantastic Fan as a complany is true and then some.

I just repaired our bathroom fan last Saturday with parts that Fantastic Fan sent for free. The new parts have a manual knob that is activated by pulling down on it. The parts replacement will require you to go on the roof to remove the screw that holds the rain sensor down. The only other fun part is if like mine one set of wires is short and getting the undercover on and off was a bit frustrating. The use of some appropriate magic words (not repeatable here) did the trick.

To answer your questions:
1. You cannot raise the hood manually
2. I don't know where the fuse is. Ours had a stop switch for partially opening the hood and it stopped the motor.
3. The problem is that the motor to fan lift is probably stripped.
4. No quick fix - call Fantastic Fans and they will send new parts.

Dear Forum Members,

Joyce does not have any problems thank goodness.
The usual cause of this problem is because a mailbox is hijacked by cracking the simple password on the email account. The crooks then change the password on the account and send emails to everyone in the address book (including this forum) and then sit back to see who replies with help and money. The mailbox owner is locked out of their account and their address book, and can't send messages saying that they are really fine.
Moral of the story: Always use complex passwords with upper and lower case characters, numbers and even punctuation. Don't use common dictionary words. Consider use the first letters of a phrase. For example: WaloGR8CC. which could be remembered by "We all love our GREAT Country Coaches."
Use different passwords for different accounts -- rather difficult to remember all of them, so at least use a different unique password for all your bank and brokerage accounts, and another password for non-financial, non-critical accounts.

Thank you, Herb. That is exactly what happened. I'm so glad no one was fooled and sent money. Everyone was wise enough to ask good questions first. I really appreciate the advise on passwords. I am now smarter. Of course, it took a full day out of my life answering phone calls from concerned friends, re-establishing my password with MSN, and now replying to everyone who sent "me" (the hackers) email messages.
