Inspire C9 Engine/Transmission Temp

Yahoo Message Number: 61611
I have a 2005 Inspire and have owned it since new. It has a C9 Cat and, not until 44000 mile did I see a heating problem. I had not changed the thermostats which are recommended to be changed about every 3 years. Did that, and still had a problem. Still glad I had the thermostats replaced. Took my coach to my trusted National Indoor Storage in Lewisville Tx where Todd Springs and his team used all their diagnostic tools. They found my fan was set to "variable". They set it to "on". I know there has been questions about this but at least this is how mine is now set and is working perfectly. In fact it is running a little cooler than ever - cycling between 175 and 185 engine and constantly around 210 on transmission.
I don't know how the controller was set for the last 5 years or that maybe the Cat dealer set it to variable when I had the thermostats changed on the road. But it appears to be very good as of now and after a long, hot drive of 10 hours with one stop through TX, LA, and MS.

Greetings,

Does setting the fan controller to "ON" cause the fan to run on high whenever the engine is running? Can you hear the fan running now, where you couldn't before? Judging by the significant decrease in operating temperatures, I would guess it does.
Be aware that there will be a significant reduction in fuel economy with the fan constantly on high.
Also be aware that the temperature indicators in the Inspire (non-Silverleaf, analog) leave a lot to be desired. Were you just showing higher temperatures on the gauge, or were you getting an idiot light and a derating of the engine?
Which layout do you have (daVinci, Siena, Genoa)? The engine compartment arrangements are different among the three. I have been curious whether that had any effect on cooling.

Have a good weekend,
Jay
