Updating software on Kenwood in-dash DNX 7100 Nav system

I have a 2009 Affinity 700, serial 6988A. The in-dash navigation system is a Kenwood DNX 7100 that seems to have a 2006 data base. Nothing in my (pretty useless) manuals describe how to update the data base. I contacted Garmin and they described a program update download onto my computer and then transfer to an SD card. Then to insert the SD card into the "Hideaway Navigation System". I can't find the Hideaway Navigation System! I can find a CD/DVD slot behind the face plate that is not described in the Kenwood manual; I don't know its use. Probably all easy but a mystery to me.
