Replace Hydro Hot?

Yahoo Message Number: 74901
Of all the problems I have had with my coach the Hydro Hot as been the most frustrating and disapointing. I cannot seem to keep it running and service has been expensive. In addition I have lost 1 radiator fan and 2 radiators have sprung a leak one making a nasty mess. I love it when it works, it is a very comfortable heat. Currently it is dead in the water but I can survive using the AC heat but the problem is the limited hot water supply. BTW if I am traveling (which I am not at the moment) I can take a shower right after I get in as there is adequate heat left in the engine to create hot water for the shower. The electric element is working but it is inadequate for showers or heat if it is cold.

Has anybody done anything creative to replace this system?
Is there a newer more reliable model? Is there a LP hot water furnace that could be connected into the plumbing system?

Is there a better, separate hot water heater?
My current problem is it does nothing when turned on. No pump sound but all green lights on the panel. This has been behaving like this for the past month, and sometimes after a few days driving it works again for a few days.

Is there a good service outlet between Chicago and Florida?

I have written John Carrillo but he hasn't responded.

Thanks

We had the same problems with our Hydro Hot. Replaced the stir pump and then the motor. Still cheaper than a new unit and it's working great now. Stir Pump replaced in Kansas City and motor in Lakeland FL. Fountain RV in Lakeland FL. Service manager is Butch Williams. He was with CC before. We feel that their work to replace the motor was excellent and their prices were reasonable. They have electric hookup so you can stay in their lot.
The best resource for Hydro Hot is the Hydronic Heating yahoo groups run by Roger Berke. You can also look on the Aqua Hot website for service locations and then check the hydronic heating yahoo groups for feedback.

Hydro-hot is certainly not perfect but my experience has been that when properly serviced on a regular schedule they are pretty trouble free. It is expensive but the only time I got in trouble was when I tried to stretch the service interval. Finding a good tech like roger goes a long way toward trouble free hot water.

The advantage of the new small aqua hot replacement for the Hydro hot is that its more efficient. Meaning it run quieter, doesn't smell up the entire neighborhood and doesn't cycle as often. When I went to the last FMCA rally I had a long talk with the Aqua Hot Rep about there service providers. None of them are required to own an exhaust analyzer to set the air mixture properly on our Hydro hots, no wonder some smell, smoke, smell and run all the time. A friend of mine has a late 08 model CC and his Aqua hot is such an improvement over my similar Hydro hot. I wish I had the big unit the Magnas Affinities and Newells have with the dual heating elements and the larger storage tank.
