Slide out room closure

Yahoo Message Number: 80677
One of my bedroom slides has decided to retract partially without warning. Has happened the last three times we've had it extended. It only retracts partially and more toward one side than the other. I suspect the hydraulic fluid may be low, but cannot find anything on the HWH website or in my manuals about how to check. Also, does anyone know if the HWH fluid is proprietary or if there are different types and which type should be used?

Knowing your name and coach model/year would be helpful. HWH uses transmission fluid but you'd want to check on type. The set-up to check fluid depends on model/year and number of slides. Depending . . . some need to be in, some out. If you have your owners manual it should tell you all you need.

Also do you see a puddle of Tranny fluid under the coach???

If the room is self retracting it's probably not the fluid level, it's more then likely an internal leak - such as thru the solenoid valve. Easy thing to try, take one each retract & extend valve from a different room and replace to the suspect room. Now the first room should be fixed and the other should be doing the same retract issue, now just switch one of the valves back, if the original room doesn't retract and the other still does or vise versa you now know which valve is bad and you can order one up tomorrow.
But, if that doesn't fix it by switching the valves around you'll be off to the next level..... will need more info on your system.

The HWH fluid is available at Camping World. Recommend using their fluid because it is clear. Using Dexron tranny fluid is dyed red and if you get a leak, your staining will be greater. To check fluid levels depends on wether the cylinder retracts or extends to move the slide out. All cylinders should be in the retracted position to check proper fluid level. If you are not sure, a quick call to HWH will resolve all your questions.
Please give more information about your coach and those with the same coach can often time provide 1st hand experiences. Customary to give year, model and number.
