Door sensor installation to replace apparently jury rigged switch i

I am helping a friend with his step. 03 Intrigue 40. He had an accident that ended up with the replacement of his step. The shop that did the repair used a 3/4" magnetic sensor that was installed behind the door frame. Then they installed a bolt with a nut on it on the door which is designed to go into the 3/8' hole in the frame. I am installing a 3/8" magnetic switch. Should I order and use the 3/4" with the bolt in the door instead?
