2005 Sienna 360

Yahoo Message Number: 84465
I have just purchased a 2005 Sienna and have yet to take delivery from the dealer. We are trading in our '97 32 foot Bounder (gas, no slides) after if just got to be too much for me to maintain and was showing signs of serious mechanical failures.I had lost confidence in it's reliability.

I am pretty handy and do most things myself.
Are there any serious things that might get past the dealer that I should be on the lookout for? Read something about thermopane seals (familiar with that as the Bounder drivers window was already almost unusable.)
My first diesel...at least I won't have to worry about navigating car pumps at truck stops.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Scott,

Welcome to the group and your new ownership of a CC. I use this site to research and learn more about my CC. I first would recommend that you go to the CC "Group" site and research the 05 CC. That should give you a starting point on what to look for upon your inspection before delivery. One thing I can say about your Thermopane windows. Mine look fine until the sun was directly on them. Then you can see the which one have a broken seal. when I took delivery of my coach, the dealer had all the outside sun shades out and it blocked the sun and any broken seals. One of the biggest things you will want to pay attention to is the "TIRES" and their "Age". When they were manufactured. Almost anything over 3 years, you need to argue about getting newer tires. You will need to change them in the next year or two and they are not cheap. Alot more of the seasoned owners on this site will also advise you what and where to look on the coach to make sure you are informed. When I purchased my coach from the dealer, I made them give me a repair contract as part of the deal. I did not purchase it myself. Ok Ladies and Gents...lets give him alot of good advise.

How many miles? And see if they have the service records and don't believe anything the dealer tells you unless he puts it in writing. What dealer are buying from? Check the value on the NADA sight you should get it at least 25% below low retail

I got it for about 20% below low retail. I did have to solve the problem of my 32H Bounder, which is totally under water and has a lot of defects. I need to check the tires as I could get a set for the Bounder for $1200 or so. Not on the 36S! Check for any problems on RVReport using the VIN. Seems clean.

Thanks for whatever you guys can give me. I will be an active contributor....but hopefully in solving someone else's problems...at least for a few years.

Scott,

My wife & I own a 2005 Inspire 330 Siena 36' #51264. There are many items you need to investigate prior to purchase. Has the power take off (PTO) wet kit been installed? status of the engine cooling radiator, original or replaced, some coaches have had leaks develop. Does it have the original Norcold 1200 series refrigerator? There have been problems with these refrigerators. Has the cook top gas fitting been changed to a metal fitting, this was a safety recall. Are the tires original? if so, they will need to be replaced, this is a considerable expense. Does the coach you are buying have accurate maintenance records? If not, you will have to perform all scheduled maintenance as if none has ever been done. Check for broken thermopane window seals. There are many other items that will require inspection and adjustments. These are just a few key items to explore. I would be happy to talk to you in detail if you would like additional information. Bottom line is, yes, we love our coach. RJ

Make sure the radiator has been replaced and the PTO has been tended to. Also check the charge air cooler. These three things went wrong with my '05 Inspire Sienna before I had found this list. Cost close to $11K to fix, some of which I battled the extended warranty carrier for and won. I imagine a lot of dealers would try to get these items past you. At the time, my coach had 31K miles on it.

You'll find tons of help from this group!
