Whats the proper way to operate Hydro Hot while travelling

Yahoo Message Number: 84493
Do you turn off Diesel and Electric but leave on the engine preheat switch? Do you turn off all the switches or leave just the diesel on ? When travelling during winter time we want to stay comfortable and not have anything freeze in the compartments.
Also when parked will the electric only provide enough heat to keep the coach warm or should we keep all three switches on.

Thanks

Good Morning, When we are on the road driving, we leave the AuquaHot off. If the motor is already warm you do not need to leave the preheat on. When stopped for the night or a few days the electric element portion will heat the water enough to shower etc but not heat the coach. If we are useing the heat to keep the coach warm we turn on the diesel burner. If the temperature outside is above 40, and you can stand the noise use your heat pump. we have a 2008 allure. Bill

The preheat is to, warm the engine before starting when it's cold outside. Normally when driving, the engine will heat the water very hot and we use the electric to maintain once we're hooked up. If we need additional hot water for coach heat or a lot of showers, we turn on the diesel as it's more efficient at heating than the electric. On cold nights we use the diesel on to heat the coach while sleeping.

Hi - First a reminder or info if it is your first time to here this. We usually all try to sign off with a bit more info on our coaches. Model, year and Coach Number, as it helps others when helping answer.
Agree with the answer's so far, and will qualify that it can be different for different coaches.
We have only on electric heating element in our coach, and it keeps it wamr for washing dishes, and hands, plus light duty to heat the coach. If we want to take a shower, we always turn on the diesel.
What we usually do, is if with power available that is included in the cost of the space, we leave the electric on at all times. While with the rig, we also leave the diesel on too, as it will kick on only when needed. If we are leaving the coach for a period of time, we turn the diesel off.
While underway, the cycle thru the engine provides all of the heating that we've ever needed so far.
As we too find the Heat Pumps a bit loud, we in moderate cold weather, will use the a stand alone 1500W electric heater, to augment the Hydro Hot heating. If it gets too cold, the Diesel kicks on and heats up the coach. We usually set the front zone lower temperature, closing the door between the front of the coach and the back bathroom/bedroom area. First one up, usually me, sets the heat up in the front, and fires off the coffee.
In real cold weather while boon docking, we will also use a Heat Buddy, which I set onto the dining table and set on medium temp. I crack a sliding window open a 1/2" for air flow.
If you have time, do a search on this board, and you will get lots of other good tips. Seems I remember reading a thread about heating not too long ago.

Enjoy, have fun,
Smitty
