CAREFREE OMEGA II WINDOW AWNING QUESTION

Any trick to opening these awnings. I have 3 with the longest being 12' long.
I finally opened the two shorter awnings using a lot force. I noticed water
dumped from the awnings when being opened. The awnings are unlocked and
the slides are out. The 12 foot awning will pull out around a foot and stop.

The awnings do have metal covers.
