Dometic roof air

I posted before about my rear roof air conditioner. It is not cooling properly, sometimes I can hear it cycling. I have had it at two shops, both tell me I need a new unit. They say it is not rebuild-able. Do you all agree? (BTW, I changed the compressor motor capacitors, no help).

I have a 2000 Allure and was told the same thing, By 3 shops and will just get two new one's> One more RV in same shop with the same thing and his is a 1999 RV.
So it looks to me after 12 - 13 years it is time to get a new ones. Do not know if this help you or not? DMG 2000 Allure #30498

We replaced the original center A/C around 2006, and the front and rear A/C about 3 years ago. I do not believe they are rebuildable. On the plus side, they are not that expensive (relatively speaking).

Al - Besides age, amount of use is a big factor in when these air conditioners wear out. When I bought our coach about 4 years ago the middle and front airs that get the most use made noises I did not like. So I replaced them. They have worked great since then. The previous owners likely did not like to run the air in back when they slept. We don't like to run the air at all at night. So we go to Oregon, ID, and MT in the summer.

Hi Al,

We just had to replace the middle A/C in our 2007 Allure. It is the one we run pretty much continually to keep the moisture out of the coach while it is stored inside in Florida. It was an Airxcel which is now a division of Coleman. It cost $1,150.00 for the unit and $175. for installation. The next unit that needs replacing we will do ourselves as it was incredibly simple.
We were also told by numerous sources that the A/C units are not repairable. With the cost of the new one it would not have been a cost effective to have it repaired anyway.

Hi all

This note is for general info. The AC units can be serviced because I had one done. All it takes is to find a shop that can install valves into the system. It than can be serviced like a car AC.
