Engine Oil Pan Leak

Yahoo Message Number: 92708
We recently found a crack in our cummins ISL 8.9 oil pan. When we contacted cummins for a replacement we were informed that the original composite oil pan was no longer available . A product improvement bulletin changed the oil pan to stamped steel. The stamped steel pan installation requires an update kit that includes a new block stiffener plate, oil pump suction tube with bracket, attachment hardware and seals. Parts were readily available from cummins for 1,200. Only part not included was the fitting to reattach the remote servicing tank. If you have good mechanical skills the parts can be swapped out in 3 hours.

When they replaced my pan 4 or 5 years ago the local Cummins people removed an engine access plate, drilled and tapped the same and installed the remote fill there. Because if the protection plate the supplied drain plug whole had to be plugged and a new one drilled and a nut welded on with the correct thread with a drain spicket I chose. I get tired of having to replace pans on most of my vehicles over time from leaking drain plugs.
