Carpet Cleaning

Hello All,

We need to have our carpet in the coach professionally cleaned. Any recommendations on the type of process is best for motorcoaches? Steam, Chemdry, etc? Thank you for your help!

Marta, we had our carpets steam cleaned in our '04 Allure and it turned out great. They don't use a lot of water and the extractor removes most of it when they are done. Wish I had the before and after picture that they took! We used a local business but he used a similar process to Stanley Steemer.

I don't recommend Stanley Steamer. We had them do our Allure and they talked DW into the 'Scotchguard' application. The carpet looked good for about one month then started to show every spot. It seems to attract dirt like a magnet. If we get it cleaned before replacing it, I want to further investigate the chem-dry or similar process.

Gary,

Your comment about attracting dirt is right on. The same is true in the home. No detergent of any kind should be used on carpet. We have a common home carpet shampoo machine which we use in the coach and home. We use nothing on carpet but hot water and clear, non-foaming ammonia. The carpet stays clean and never attracts dirt. If your carpets have been professionally cleaned you can expect the most incredibly dirty water the first time you shampoo with just water and ammonia.

I don't know what the carpet company used on ours but we had it done a year ago and it's still clean and beautiful. They used a pre treatment for spots and then some type of cleaner but we did not want the Scotchguard treatment. The name of the company in Tampa FL is Dynamic Carpet Care. They did a great job! Marta,

My Hoover carpet shampooer has a measuring device so I don't know the precise ratio. I would estimate that it is somewhere near, but not over, one part ammonia to ten parts water. In other words it is not a real strong mixture. You can rent a cleaner and it comes with a measure device. Just replace their recommended cleaner with ammonia in the same proportion. If having a professional do it have them do the same.

If you and Scott would like I'll bring my shampooer for you to use at the JAX rally. You supply the ammonia and hot water. I'll supervise. Won't take an hour. The dog hair is likely to be a mess.
