Tires Bridge stone vs Toyo

I need six 12 R 22.5 tires for my rear. I am considering Toyo m170 or Bridgestone R 250. Can anyone tell me about their experience with these tires?

I prefer Michelin or Continental's that said if you value your lives don't buy the Toyos.  I had enough troubles with them on my 98 Allure to write a term paper.  The 12R's on the Intrigue were no better, and had to be replaced after 2 and 1/2 years do to separation.  Bridgestone has a good reputation; so, that would be my choice between the two.  TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

We bought B F Goodrich ST230's for our '04 Allure and have been very pleased with them. Much better ride and wear than the Toyos that came on the coach.  B F Goodrich is owned by Michelin and the B F Goodrich tires are made in the USA.  The B F Goodrich tires were recommended to us by Pat at Pro Tire in Denton TX. He used to put tires on Prevost and CC's.  We have put over 60,000 miles on these tires and they are 5 years old. They are load range H.

Rick, I put 6 Bridgestones on the dual/tags on my Intrigue 3 years and 15,000 miles ago. Look like new, ride smooth and sweet. Go for them! Nicely priced too.

Richard,

I have had the Bridgestone R250 ED tires on my steers (front) for about 6 yrs. I really like the tire it has a stiffer sidewall and I like it It is  J rated tire with 70 mph rating and 7000 lb load rating for single axle. I use Firestone FS 560 Plus on the rear. I like the ride on the coach with this combo the  FS 560 are 70 mph and 7000 lb rated. The Bridgestone is about $150 more per tire.

I CAN NOT HELP BUT GET IN TO THIS CONVERSATION. I HAVE A 2005 INSPIRE WITH 110,000 MILES. THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE TOYO. I DID NOT FEEL LIKE THEY WERE ANYTHING SPECIAL, INFACT AFTER REPLACING THEM WITH TRASH TRUCK TIRES, I FELT LIKE THEY HANDLED MUCH BETTER ON THE ROAD. I NEED TO WEAR A HEARING AIDE SO I DO NOT KNOW IF MY NEW TIRES ARE QUIT, BUT THEY HANDLE AS WELL AS A COUPLE OTHER CC COACHES I HAVE DRIVEN, THAT HAD BF-GOODRICH & MICHELIN.
I JUST PURCHASED 6 NEW TRASH TRUCK TIRES. THEY COST 1998.61 DOLLARS. THIS IS THE TOTAL PRICE INCLUDING ALL THOSE TAXES, MOUNTING, BALANCING AND ALL THE STUFF YOU NEED TO DO FOR NEW TIRES. THE TIRE PRESSURE IS 90 POUNDS PER TIRE. I KNOW THE COURTNEY FAMILY FOR 40 YEARS WHO OWN THE COURTNEY TIRE IN CHULA VISTA. I OBVISOULY TRUST HIS OPINIO. I DO NOT NEAD TO SPEND OVER DOUBLE FOR 6 TIRES, IF WE MAINTAIN PRESSURE AND ROTATE FRONT TO REAR WHEN IT IS TIME.
THIS IS JUST WHAT I HAVE HAD LUCK WITH.

Is your need for a hearing aide (sic) the reason why you are shouting?

I also hope your aide is comfortable being worn by you. :-D

First, let me say that this is a huge subject with hundreds of opinions. But, here is my two cents: When I shopped tires about 4- 5 years ago I found that Bridgestone and Michelin were way more expensive than my budget could stand. I considered Hankook with a competitive quote but availability delay was a problem. I settled on a brand that has a big name but that I seldom see discussed here.
I purchased six Firestone FS 560, 275/70 tires from Parkhouse Tires, Thousand Palms, CA branch for $2,462 incl. mtg, bal, warranty etc. I realize that this pricing is way out of date at this time. But I wanted to mention that they have served me well. I weighed my coach at 4 points loaded. These tire met the load requirements. The load bearing capability is comparable to both Michelin & Bridgestone. Also, the tires were fresh; the mount date was about two months after the mfg. date. (very important!)  Parkhouse Tire did a good job.

Now, I do not know if these are considered as utility tires for the curb hopping abuse dealt out by trash hauling trucks. I have been told that truck tires are not as good for comfort. If these are considered truck tires, frankly, I can not feel any difference in quietness, handling or ride quality between the Firestones and my old Toyos and Continentals. Also the, Firestones are not showing any cracking so far.

So this is one more opinion that you can stack up with all the hundreds of others.

Next time you should consider 275R 80 tires.  They give extra margin of weight handling at lower tire pressures.  This was a real issue with 98 Allures with the kitchen slide like I had.  It put a lot of extra unbalanced weight on the left front tire.  I went thru 4 Toyos on the left front supplied by CC before I changed sizes.  I enjoyed the Continental tires.  That's why when I replaced my 12 R michelin tires with 315's I didn't hesitate to go back to Continental.  They are a touch stiffer than the Michelins were.  But like the Michelins they track well  and they do work better than the XZ2 I had on wet pavement.  The diameter  and revs/miles are very similar.  The only 12 R Michelin recommends for  RV's is the XZE.  Les Schwab  bought back the remaining time my Michelins should have lasted.  Which saved me a bunch of money.  TWI 98 Allure 30255, now 2004 Intrigue 11731

Dave,

I had 4 points weighed at the FMCA Rally in Pomona, CA. They used portable scales and also weighed my toad. This service is provided at many group rallys, but I do not know of any private sources. Maybe the guys at Colton Truck Terminal could advise a source.

We have had our 2002 Affinity for just under six years.  When we got her she had all Michelin tires.  We have replaced them all.  The first tires we got I did not pay attention to the built date and the RV repair place slipped us two 1 1/2 years old Good Years.  After that I went to Parkhaus Tires in Escondido and bought 4 Firestone tires for drive tires.  We have been running those now for 4 years and they have worked just fine.  I did not notice any difference between these and the Michelins that were on the coach before.  I would have purchased Michelins but the price difference was almost 30%.  The Firestones were made in the USA and were only 3 weeks old when I got them.  They are 12Rs.  Same load rating as the Michelins.

Then 2 1/2 years ago in St Louis we needed two 315s for the steer tires.  The Michelins we had on the front were worn out.  We had our choice of two Michelins or two Dunlops.  The Dunlops were made in the USA and were one month old.  They were 30% less than Michelins.  Load rating was the same.  We took the Dunlops and they have worked fine for 2 1/2 years.  The guy at the tire dealer in St Louis called our tires "dump truck tires".

I have Michelin tires on my wife's Acura.  They have been hard to keep balanced since I bought them new two years ago.  I had another set of Michelins on my previous personal car.  I had to take the first set of Michelins back three times to try and get them balanced before having the tire dealer put on another set of Michelins.  My point.  I think there are a number of reliable tire suppliers these days.  And secondly Michelin has lost some of it's high quality luster in my eyes.

Richard,

I am really sorry for not following thru with the information I indicated I would share. Currently we have approx. 110,000 miles on the coach. I think this is the fourth set of tires. I replace tires tires at about 35,000 miles or as soon as those little nubs show. I have never had a problem with this type of truck tire. The current set of tires I had the shop inflate to 90 pounds all the way around. They told me we should inflate to 100, but I thought I knew more than the tire experts. I was wrong. At 90 pounds and at 65 miles per hour I thought they were a little squirmiest. I had them inflated as the tire spec. indicated to 100 pounds and everything is just great.

Please, anyone that feels like I am make a bad selection please let me know, you will not hurt my feeling. Fortunately my tire store allows me to drive on the tires, if I do not like them, they will try another set.

I had to replace the original Toyos at the end of 3 years with about 27,000 miles because the belt warping.  The XZ2 Michelins had to be replaced at 59,000 miles because of side wall cracking at 6 1/2 years on the coach .  I'm now at 105,000 miles at 11 years with no issues with the Continental 315  HSL1 highway bus tires.  The Continentals are not as smooth or as Quiet as the  12R  Michelins, but they are  way ahead of the 12 R Toyos.  TWI 2004 intrigue 11731

I'm running the same since last year (HSL1) and ran them across country. They roll good, the only problem I see with them is they cut into soft ground too easy, so you have to be carefully.
