Stan,

I replaced the carpet in my 2005 Inspire two years ago.
I replaced it with engineered hardwood. It was a relatively easy DIY project.
I'll be happy to talk with you if you would like.

Ron,

I just recrived a CC blog from another 2005 Inspire owner who did what you have done. I asked him the below questions, could you comment. Currently we are finishing up about 14 weeks on the road and slowly heading home.

On the drivers side ---- I have indentations where the slide comes in on the carpet. Did you have this issue, and if so what did you do ?

Did you do any of the work yourself ?

What did you do with the flooring under the dash at the drivers seat ?

If I can ask how much did the job cost ?

What part of the country are you located ?

We are on our way home after about 14 weeks on the road.

Stan,

We do many floors every year and have used most of the common products. Currently (and for the last 7-8 years) we prefer using LVP/LVT. (luxury vinyl plank/tile)  We stay away from the cheaper thinner products from some of the major manufactures and use only Karndean's products which have a thicker wear layer and overall thickness is more than others, still only around 1/8" overall thickness. What we've like about the  product is the ability to remove any individual piece if/when an issue happens, such as a slide room scratching and/or tearing the flooring. In all the units we've put it in, a miss-aligned or broken mechanism part on a slide room has been the only reason  to replace a section. But if that happens it's a very easy process to replace the damaged piece('s).
We have done many using engineered wood, but when water leaks occur the product swells and replacement isn't very easy and sometimes without removing a large  area the replaced area doesn't line up as well as before. Mainly because of the way it snaps together, and when you cut out a section you lose the groove and even some of the best flooring people I've worked with can't make it perfect. And I like closest to  perfect as possible always!
You can check out karndean on their web site and they will send you samples if you're interested.
No, it's definitely not the cheapest, but nowhere near the super expensive. I've had it in my personal coach now for 8 years, once I saw this product I ordered  it up and put it down. We've never had any issues with it scratching or coming loose, traveling with our dogs & kids.
If it's something you want to do yourself, I'd recommend you contact me further and I'll be happy to explain the process we use for prepping the existing sub-floor  which we worked extensively with Karndean and their reps to perfect the process.

Good luck and Travel Safe!

Stan.  we replaced our carpet and galley tile with a bamboo vinyl.  We also had the local carpet shop cut the carpet for the 2 slides.  I gave them the old carpet and bound the edges and cut to fit.  There was enough carpet left over to do the bedroom.  We kept the tile in the bath

Stan,

Use 3/8" or thinner flooring and you shouldn't have a scraping issue.
I did all the work myself.

I left the original carpet under the dash and under the seats. I made my cut just behind the seats under the skirts.
The project cost was $400 including the adhesive.
I live in the Dallas area, Plano.
Safe travels,
