Lost Fuel Cap

Yahoo Message Number: 8317
Those of you that will NEVER leave the fuel cap on top of the pump can ignore this...

For all rest of us..

A Stant Model 10819 cap seems to fit my Intrigue and a number of other CC rigs camped with us.

The auto parts guy said the Stant number can be 'crossed' by any good auto parts store into whatever mfgrs they stock. ( I've added this to the list of part numbers I carry in my wallet. (lamps, bulbs etc))

Has anyone made up a chain or cord to attach the caps to the rig? How did you do it?

I put mine in my front pants pocket. Can't forget to put it back on this way.

-did not use chain, used velcro one part on cap the other on the door no need to drill, just replace after 4-5 years.

The 03 has a place to stick the cap on the inside of the fuel door.
It is a bent piece of sheet metal, with a half round cutout, and the cap slides down into it, with the threads of the cap holding it in place. Seems like it would be easy to duplicate, bend a piece of sheet metal (such as heating duct thickness) and epoxy it on the inside of the fuel door.

Jim: After leaving my fuel cap on a pump, this was my solution for both side's fuel caps.
I found a replacement by taking the remaining fuel cap to a parts store for a matchup.
I believe it was a Stant, but am not certain at this point. I did it 2 years ago.
The new, as well as the existing cap has a raised "fin" for screwing the cap on / off.
I bought a toilet flush chain for about $2.00.
A hole slightly larger than the chain links was drilled through the raised "fin".
Flatten with pliers the end link of the chain, compressing where the loop meets itself resulting in an ovoid shaped loop.

Pass the ovoid loop through the drilled hole + 3-4 more links.
Then feed the opposite end of the chain through the ovoid link creating a noose around the fin.
Unscrew one of the 3 Phillips screws at the fuel tank entrance.
Rescrew it back through the tail-end link of the chain.
A permanent solution.

I also have stuffed some disposable gloves in each fuel port to lessen smelly hands.
The hole through the fin will not result in fuel nor odor escaping.

I don't know if it's still sold, but ... years ago, some auto parts stores (Pep Boys?) sold a plastic thingy (tech term) which had one end that slipped over the filler tube and the other end over the cap so you couldn't lose the cap. Check larger auto parts stores for this thingy.

It seems there is a far easier solution. Just go out and purchase a replacement cap and store it in the coach. Once you have a replacement close to hand I bet you will never lose an original. GGGGGGGGGGGGG

I would admit my fix was abit wordy.
In terms of time / effort... it took longer to type my FIX then to actually secure the fuel cap.....don
