Wow! This thing turns.

Just getting used to my new Magna 42' -- this thing really turns sharply! Drove it up my 500' hilly driveway and backed onto the RV pad. Right turn to get it out really had me concerned -- but, one swoop and I was on my way. Uncanny how this big thing turns.

Hi Glen

"Turning" and getting into tight spaces is a giant concern to my wife and I.
We downsized from a 40' Holiday Rambler Imperial to a 36' CC (Intrigue) in order to get into small camp grounds on rivers and lakes. Our dream coach is a 42 to 45' Magna, but have steered away from one (no pun intended) because of maneuverability issues.
May I ask, what did you drive before owning the 42' Magna. How does the Magna compare?

Thanks.
Tom

Tom,

Believe it or not, I owned (and still do) a 24' Minnie Class C - that's it, my total experience with motor homes until this Big Rig.
I wouldn't for a minute suggest that I could get my rig into small campgrounds, I likely wouldn't even try (I'll take the Class C to such destinations). I wouldn't even try to take a 36' rig into many of them that I've seen. I think you should take a test drive in a new Magna and just see how very maneuverable these things are, however. I can whip in and around grocery store parking lots like a VW! Well . . . not quite. These are amazing machines, though. Check 'em out! We really love ours. We're in the process of "discovering" a whole new way going and meeting nice folks - motor homing, instead of just camping. We'll tow our Jeep Wrangler to get us out to the state parks for hiking, sightseeing, etc. For now, I'm researching quite an array of first-class RV resorts catering to Big Rigs that we can head for. Happy trails!

-Glen, might be a caution for you and others with really tight turn radius. My Roadmaster tow bar has a warning to check the turn radius with tow attached to determine if the coach will turn tighter than the towbar will allow and thus, do damage to towbar or tow or both.
Just thought I'd bring that up! My previous coach could cause problems if I turned too sharp.
For what it's worth, Larry

Good point, Larry. I haven't even hooked up the tow bar and Jeep Wrangler to it yet. I assure you, with that hooked up, I would be much more cautious in my sharp turns. I'll bet it would turn sharp enough to damage the tow bar!

My 42' Intrigue with Tag will turn Inside my former 36' 98 Allure, and the new Magna will turn inside both. TWI 2004 Intrgue 11731. 35 deg cut vs. 50 deg vs 54 deg. I don't have the wheel base figures in front of me, but I think the Allure was 243", Intrigue 273 and the Magna
