Mounting "stuff"on the roof

I want to mount a piece of hardware on the roof that will raise and lower a 23 foot vertical antenna. The footprint of the device is approx 12"x18". I have been told that there is no plywood under the fiberglass skin on the roof. So, the question is, how are all these Directway dishes and sat dishes held up there? I know they are screwed to the roof but I can't believe that flimsy piece of fiberglass can hold those big dishes. Any ideas?

My Datastorm is attached with 1" #12 screws to the fiberglass roof.
There is also a large bead of Dicor under the Datastorm plate and I think that also provides a lot of suction. When we removed the dish from the previous rig it took two guys and a crowbar to get the Dicor to release. I suspect that the vertical is going to place a lot more stress on the 12" x 18" plate than my dish does on the 2' x 4' mounting plate. Maybe you could make the mounting plate bigger?
