Tire recall

Yahoo Message Number: 19670
Glen; The compliance guy at Country Coach with whom I spoke told me that they would send tires from Les Schwab in Junction City to a Les Schwab store in Salt Lake City if they had to replace them. Therefore I don't know the price.
If they don't reimburse me for my replacement 80 series tires, but send 70 series, I think I will keep what I have.
It appears to me that the entire recall is over the improper posting of the tire inflation label at time of manufacture. I was told that the label should have read 125 psi.
There has been a lot of interchange on this post about tire inflation. Owners inflating their tires to 125 psi seem to be rare. Many owners are are reporting pressures around 80 or 90 psi.
Also many owners have been through the weigh-in process where the psi is determined by the load and distribution.
It seems that the Fed's want the coach to go out with 125 psi to comply with their standards and if it wasn't labeled as such they are requiring the Manufacturer to replace them whether they are factory equipment or replacement tires.

Sounds like our tax dollars at work. Go Figger.

I agree with your comments and don't understand what is going on since CC replaced my front tires a year or so ago for the same reason.
CC told me that if I wanted the 80R tires I would have to pay the difference which was not a surprise.
I have talked to two tire shops and one will not install the 80R without a letter from CC, and the other said that the 80 tires puts a bigger workload on the engine and that would result in poorer fuel mileage and could potentially mess up the way the coach handles. Have you experienced either of these problems? A larger tire would have to make fewer rotations, but the 80 tires are also about 20 lbs. heavier per tire than the 70 tires.

Thanks

Regarding the tire recall. For my previous 2000 Allure coach(early build), there was a recall for the front tires and the recall was called "Vehicle Defect Owner Notification - 99V-288" and they were replacing just the front tires. When they were doing this, if your coach was built with steel wheels and not aluminum, then they gave you 275/80's to replace the fronts because the steel wheel manufacturer would not allow over 120psi whereas the aluminum wheel manufacturer allowed the 125psi. Note that if the dealer replaced the steel wheels and put aluminum wheels on your coach, the original production build shows steel wheels and CC gave you 275/80s. The rears were left at 275/70s.

Allure 30214-30450 and Intrigue 10819-10990 were affected by this recall.

So much for now, Bob...

I have the Alcoa wheel on my coach and they are stamped 120psi max.
Check your wheels, they should be stamped with pressure waiting.

I questioned this at the time and Country coach said that the Alcoa wheels were approved by the manufacturer for 125 even though the wheels are stamped 120. The steel wheel manufacturer would not approve 125.
