Replacing icemaker waterline in Dometic frig?

We have the side by side Dometic frig which now needs a whole new waterline to the icemaker(the long one that goes up to the top of the back of the frig.) We will be in JC in April and are interested in knowing if anyone has had Carrier, CC, or Cummins NW replace this line and if so, how well they did the job etc. Our repair fellow here in AZ couldn't get the part in time and said he was going to have to pull the refrig out to access enough of the back of the line to replace it.
Since we'll be in freezing temps (Bend) for Feb. and March I figure we might as well just go back to regular ice cubes and save the worry about the icemaker line freezing up so replace the line after that.

A friend that also has a 2003 Intrigue had to replace his ice maker water line and he told me that he had to pull the refigerator out completely to do the job. He said that Dometic installs the water line very close to the heated coils on the back of the fridge and the heat causes the plastic tubing to deteriorate quickly. He warned me that I should keep my eyes open for a leak someday soon because the plastic tubing will split when it gets brittle from the heating and cooling cycles -- another good reason to shut off the water when we leave the coach. When he ran the new line for his ice maker, he ran the line AWAY FROM any heating source and eliminated the source of the problem.

Yup...that's exactly what happened to us. The line is definitely not placed well for what it's supposed to do! It cracked in several places, and ended up allowing water to seep under the fridge and come out in our bottom drawer...fortunately, we knew about what was going on at the time and were trying to dry out the compartment. If we had been away, it would have been terrible.

I would definitely urge folks to watch their line in the fridge compartment. The lower part of the line was actually touching a hot tube which caused a pinhole to develop. We thought THAT was the whole problem until we fixed IT, and found still more water coming from higher up.

I just had my done at Al's RV in Yuma, AZ. They only had to tilt the refrig slightly while the helper crawled in from the outside refrig vent & replaced the line, he was actually half way in the opening.

My friend in a American Eagle had his replaced the next day via the same method & the best thing is they come out to your site in a mobile truck.
