Step keeps coming out

We have had the dealer either adjust (twice) or replace (twice) the contact switch (plunger style that depresses when door is closed) to no availabe to keep our step from coming out while driving. Our's is an '05 Allure and we can drive for hours with no problem, and then drive for hours with a constant problem. Any suggestions.

Some CC coaches come with a little sticky pad attached to the door side which sometimes helps with that problem. Not sure what adhesive they use but you can probably do that and eliminate the problem. It helps to make a firmer contact when the door is closed so that the switch indicates a closed door condition and activates the retract mechanism for the steps.

Why not just turn off the entry step switch by the door when you get ready to travel - at least it would let you travel without the risk of the step coming out while rolling down the road - of course, don't forget to turn it back on again when you stop -

I don't think it works like that, at least it does not on our Affinity. The switch is just a logic input, not hard wired like the awning switch.

The step will come out when you open the door no matter what. Think of the liablility of having it the other way. Old farts like me dropping like flies (off the top step).

Ours did the same thing in the early days (came out leaving Lazy Days), and did NOT come out once ... that was scary. I assumed it was the door switch, but never messed with it ... it just started working correctly.

Its a switch somewhere, most likely the door ciruit since that is what tells it to come out. Boy, that was pretty darn helpful wasn't it ...

Your problem is the door switch and is easy to fix. You do not need a dealer. Steps are made by Kwikee in Cottage Grove, OR. and the toll free # is 800-736-9961. Also web site is www.kwikee.com. Takes 5 minutes and a volt meter to DIY.

Hi Steve.............

I had the same problem except mine did not want to come out! I fixed it myself after getting the wrong diagnosis from Camping World! What I would do is order a new control unit for the step from CC 12 wires on it> but with the instructions packed with the unit it is a piece of cake, try to get a 12 volt car batterie and than you can test it! If, and that is a big if, it isnot the control unit than you can return it to CC and get a credit!

Check the part # on the old one and when you are testing you can also call Kwikee customer service, they are very eager to help! Good luck..................
