2008 Intrique

Hello,

This will be my 1st post to the group, but I have been reading your posts for 6 months or so. I am about to order a 2008 Intrique 42" Ovation Quad and I still have the option of getting the 2006 Cat C- 13 525 engine with the older catalytic converter. I am not sure which way to go. 2007 or 2006 motor, money not being my main concern. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

I would go with the 2006 spec motor. The 2007 spec motors have significantly higher maintenance costs associated with them due to the new "emissions" controls. Additionally, the 2007 spec motors will generate significantly more heat in the engine compartment due to the additional / changed catalysts and exhaust particulate filter.

Just my $0.02

It seems with Cat the unknown can cost you time, energy, inconvience, and frustration, beter stick with the tride and trude.
TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731. ISL. I dont trust CAT. Wish they offered ISM for Intrigue.

If it was me, I'd go with the '06. They made some major changes to the '07's and some "experts" are predicting first year problems.
The '06's are a proven technology whereas the '07's may have some bugs to work out. JMHO. Welcome to the forum. By the way, thats one beautiful coach you're ordering!

Hello Ben,

I have been watching this forum for some time now but this is my first post. I couldn't resist because I have an '04 Intrigue with a C-12.
My father gave me some advice years ago that I have used all my life "Never buy the first year of a car" It applies to many things and certainly to your question. I love the CAT but I would not buy the new one until I had seen a lot of them out there. I would definately opt for the proven C-13.

He is right about that. Stick with proven technology. I used to be a mechanic for Dallas Area Rapid Transit before I got involved in the motor home industry. We were the Gennie pig for all of the equipment that is coming out now. There are problems that come with the new system. We had it on our 50 series and M-11 for about 4 years now.
Expensive to maintain, very troublesome. I would defiantly go with the old engine style. I will say this for CAT though, they have always been 1 step ahead on the emissions technology. I think they have the best grip on exhaust innovation. CAT did a lot of planning for the future to stay ahead of regulations. I would say that if you had to have new style use CAT. If you can get an old style DO IT.

Thank you all for your responses. I will be getting 2006 Cat-13 525.

I am leaving tomorrow morning for Junction City to see the factory and put my order in. I have redesigned the exterior paint theme also a very different interior, colors, fabrics and booth set-up. CC is very accommodating so far. Wish me luck! Thanks again.

Ben, I do not own a CAT engine and cannot speak to those issues, but do know that Country Coach had significant Radiator problems through part of 2007 as they utilized an all Aluminum Radiator rather than copper/brass with Steel Tanks. Many extended warranty companies won't honor the radiator replacement if needed.
You might try and check the records if available to see if the 06 or 07 you're looking at has had the Radiator changed..

This post is from Mar of 2007. I wonder how that could be . You are all answering a 4 year old post. How can anyone "order " anything with the information listed
