About those MICHELIN tires

Check out post #34032 for all the info I discovered in my search for replacements for my 315 TOYO's. Explains the difference of XZA 1's....2's.....and 3's......and where I bought mine. Cost was about $650.00 a tire. Not cheap but I priced (not shopped) the new RV Goodyear and they were only $50.00 cheaper. Just drove to the mountains of Western NC and they are worth every penny.

We decided on the XZA2 Michelin tires, size 20580R22.5 as advised by the CC Techs for our 2002 Allure.

Unfortunately - we cannot find the tires in stock! We would like to have them installed before we head south for the winter (approx. Nov
1). Does anyone have any information as to when these tires will be
available? All we can learn is "backorder". Our local dealer found some in Wyoming yesterday, but the dealer there would not release them even though he had no current customer.

Call Michelin Tires at 1-800-847-3435 You may find a dealer on your way down that would hold them.

Are you sure about the size tire on your 02 Allure. I have an 02 Allure and it came with R12 and I replaced with metric 295/80R/22.5. A 205 size tire sounds small to me.

I should have proofread my note - the "9" and the "0" are adjacent on the keyboard. The correct tire size is 29580R22.5.

Well, today I had my front Toyo tires replaced with Michelin XZE's. I could feel an immediate improvement in the ride, it was smoother than with the Toyos. Also, I saw a post saying that the Michelin XZE tires run hot, at least until the tread has worn down some. Well, my SmarTire showed the Michelins at 100 degrees, while the rear Toyos were 111 to 115 (depending on tire). So the Michelins run cooler! They also track very well, no wandering. I feel quite pleased with them.

Yes, we went with the XZEs too (all the way around) from the Toyos and saw the ride improvement right away.

I said warmer than XZA. They are a big improvement. That's why VP Wiesenberger use to recommend then for coaches back in the 90's, when he took care of customer complains for CC.

Getting ready to replace Goodyears on my 2006 Allure 34' with 42,000 miles; but almost 8 years on tires. No sidewall checking, and always stored indoors. Suggested replacements are Michelin X Coach HLX.
Does anybody have any experience with these tires on your CC? I would appreciate your insight. Thanks Jim Westling

I switched from Goodyears to Michelin XZA 2 using the FMCA program a year ago. Program worked well for me. Best surprise: My fuel mileage seems to have improved by 10%. The ride and steering are better also. Decreased fuel consumption should pay for the tires!

Two years ago we replaced our tires when we bought the coach... it is not worth the risk riding around on old tires... the results can be disastrous. At the time the the best option to replace the OEM tires was Michelin XZA 2 295/80R22.5 with a 40" diameter, There are cheaper truck tires but these are intended for RV use which involved much different usage than a truck trailer. Talk to a Michelin dealer and check prices with the FMCA tire program.

Chris, I don't know if they are the best choice, but I purchased Michelin XZE 12R22.5 through the FMCA program in Oct 2013 while visiting Eugene Or and I am very pleased with them. Much softer ride than the Toyo tires I had been running.

Check around but I think the XZA-2 Energy tires are superior to XZE and other options for motorhome... at least that was the case a couple years ago when we bought ours. They are specifically designed for motorhomes. Some of the big 22.5's are designed for trucks and the idea is that they are rolling most of the time. They provide long wear and what not but are meant to be used in more stationary applications. The XZA-2 Energy, if I recall correctly, was specifically designed for motorhome use where the tires are not driven nearly as much and tend to reach end of life long before the tread is worn out. Seems like they are designed to exude more lubricant or something... I forget the story exactly. I note that XZE is touted for 'best wear in high scrub application's whereas the xza-2 is touted for fuel efficiency. I also note among other things it has a wider tread width.
But in the end, on their chart, both are listed as "all position" and for Bus/RV use: www.michelintruck.com/michelintruck_en_us/tires-retreads/new-tires.jsp I believe I have seen more big rigs with the XZA-2 than with other designations. It would be damn nice of Michelin to do a comparison chart on these things so customers could really compare apples and apples.

Silver Leaf disconnected behind dash.
I am in the process of getting my "new to us" Ovation (#117220 up and running. Not ran in at least 3 years and has not reached 25,000 miles on the 2004 unit. But it is coming together well if costing a bit more than I had hoped. I have a question concerning the Silver Leaf unit. It is currently unplugged behind the dash. Is there any reason why I should NOT try to reconnect it? Hopefully it will work but if it has a problem I do not want it to damage anything else. What do you think? Thanks

I can't think of a reason to not connect your Silverleaf. I recently upgraded mine and it is a simple matter to plug in. Easier from the top than the bottom. Just two screws to release the dash section about the instrument cluster.
