Planning on driving from Roseburg, Oregon to Crescent City, California.
Looking at taking either Hwy 42 from Roseburg to Bandon, then Hwy 101 south or Hwy 199 from Grants Pass to Crescent City. Can anyone provide information on the travel conditions of each of these highways or a recommendation on the better route. We have never been on either highway.

Thank you,

We have traveled many times on the 199, quite picturesque, through the pines, when you come out on the coast be sure to go to the Samoa Cookhouse for lunch, a lot of history..food is great, family style although some changes over last 10 years due to safety concerns, lots of parking for big rigs. Have fun.

I've driven the road 9 times. Three in a 36' Allure and 6 with the Intrigue 42' I have now. If you check with the California Beauacracy you'll see about 36' to 38' the limit, but if you are careful you can get through the woods without crossing the center yellow line. The fun part is if you are going north east and you are traversing the part of the road that parallels the river. It's very narrow with no room for error and you don't want to meet an 18 wheeler coming the other way.
