Michelin Warranty Problems

Yahoo Message Number: 40519
Well, today I was very disappointed in trying to get possible warranty work done on my nearly new Michelin XZ2 tires. I've got I called Michelin customer support to get a list of truck tire dealers in my area and the gave me a list of about 10 dealers within a 50 mile radius.
The first three said they'd gladly sell me a new tire but won't submit a warranty claim unless it's a tire they sold. The next three couldn't find the XZ2 tire in their system. A little frustrated I finally called the dealer where the previous owner had purchased the tires last year - Les Schwab in Junction City, OR. I spoke with Paul Kintigh and explained the reason it's difficult to get dealers to do warranty work is that Michelin doesn't reimburse dealers for warranty labor. He suggest that I try offering to pay for the labor and perhaps a dealer might process a warranty claim.
Paul said if I bring it up to him he'll evaluate it and determine if it's warrantable so that's what I'll do on the way to the Class Reunion. I'm not hopeful though as he went to great length to explain all the reasons he might not warrant the tire even if it is out of round.

I've had excellent results with Goodyear tires and the nationwide chain "WingFoot" on warranty work (only needed it twice in the last 20 years though). This experience with Michelin doesn't give me much motivation to stick with Michelins the next time around. Perhaps Les Schwab in Junction City will give me reason to feel better
