Girard external anemometer

My anemometer keeps getting knocked out of its base, by low branches. Anyone else having this problem? What is the fix . . . besides avoiding branches . . . some kind of cage?

I think they get fragile over time due to sun exposure. The bad part is that you can't just replace the cups on top, you have to replace the entire device...over $100 for parts alone. It's not difficult to do, just a pain when the cups should cost $5-6 and just bolt onto the shaft of the anemometer. Make sure you route the cable on the new anemometer through the BOTTOM and not the side. Don't ask how I know this.

I guess I'll try to avoid overhanging trees from now on.

Lee, I installed a cage over the anemometer on previous Monaco Dynasty. I'm sure it will work on our CC. The dimensions may differ somewhat. I purchased it from;

Here is a wild guess: Could this be the same type of cage that is used to protect lights in the marine industry? I seem to remember that some of them are powder coated castings and others are welded stainless rod stock. The brand names that come to mind are Perko and Balmar. I hope this helps.

Here is another wild idea. In the arena of plumbing supply you will find cages that are called out as "Floor Drain Strainer Domes" They are available in Stainless steel or cast. I do not know what size would be needed to cover your anemometer. Just a thought for your consideration.
