Just returned from our first ever trip with our 2000 Allure 30493. We enjoyed the interior comfort of the unit and the handling as compared to our previous 94 Bounder Ford gas...We circumnavigated the north shore of Lake Superior and enjoyed our respite from caring for my mother.
However, not all is perfect in CC world! Got stuck in Ontario one morning, after already driving for about 3 hours, with a frozen starter (solenoid). Road service was called, CC and B. Gregg were contacted, and eventually she started. Road service was advised to use booster cables, attach them to the starter posts, and bingo...Well, bingo took awhile perhaps because the booster cables were kind of oldish. Anyway, wish to ask if booster cables are necessary? If the batteries are ok I am wondering if I could just turn the key on to the acc position. Then get down and under and using two screwdrivers touch one to the +term and the other to the -term of the starter and then cross the screwdrivers touching metal to metal. I would think and hope that that would cause an arc or jump and start the foolish thing...Any comments? BTW, just got the latest Summer issue of DESTINATIONS and there is an article on this subject of non-starting problems. However, no suggestions were made in the article on how to start. It is stated that the solenoid is sticking and to replace it...I do not think that is necessarily true. They can get unstuck and work fine thereafter. Thanks.

It appears that Cummins was having some QC problems with starters about that time. My 2000 CC Intrigue was purchased new in January of 2000, I immediately drove it from Tampa, Florida to Tucson, AZ, when I arrived at the RV park in Tucson the starter wouldn't turn over after I returned to the coach after checking in at the RV park office. CC wanted to tow it to Cummins dealer, I insisted they send a mobile unit out to check it at the RV park, I finally prevailed after much conversation. The Cummins rep was fantastic, he had the starter replaced within 45 minutes of his arrival. I haven't had any more starter issues since that time...knock on wood.

Lucky you! Being the second owner, and that the coach is over 2 years old now, I doubt if Cummins will extend the same courtesy to me...

The starter failed on my 2000 Intrigue last year. The parts and labor were covered under the 5 year 100,000 mile Cummins warranty, the service call was on me.
