Where can I get a replacement red Corian counter

Yahoo Message Number: 55293
We have a 2002 CC Affinity Bed and Breakfast with a redish with white speckles Corian counter tops. The cover for the stove was cracked when we bought the motor home last month. My wife wants to replace it. Any ideas on where something like that could be bought?

When our home corian counter cracked we contacted a local cabinet shop that sells corian products to set up service. Corian has a 10 year warranty so you might be able to get it repaired or replaced for free.

That will be very difficult to duplicate. Even when CC was still with us they would not guarantee a match. Moreover each is a custom fit and needs to be bought oversize and then adjusted. Could get very expensive and never look right.
We replaced our broken Corian stove top cover with a cutting board specifically made for stove tops - that is it is treated to resist fire/buring in case of the inevtiable someplace, sometime, somebody. Search under stovetop cutting board and many items will come up in Google.
It looks a whole lot better than the Corian ever did and can actually be used to prepare stuff. They come in various types of wood from several sources including Camping World (not where we got ours). I cut it to fit, easy except it is a hardwood and I would still be trying without power equipment.
I had to talk the wife into it, she loves it! Can't get over how much better it looks and it was a fraction mismatched Corian.

Happy New Year Bob,

Can you post a photo for us? There's nothing wrong with our stove top cover, but the idea of a cutting board is intriguing!

Thanks!

Jay:

We had Davis Cabinets in JC make us a Maple butcher block insert for the larger side of the kitchen sink, It works great. The lower portion of the block is about 1" thick and fits inside the sink, the top portion of the block is about 1" thick and rests on the sink and has the outline of the Corian lid. There is a hole in the block for easy removal from the sink. Because the block is inside the sink and supported by the sink, there is virtually no movement of the block when pounding or chopping. Also the block is in close proximity to the smaller side of the sink providing a dumping ground for the dicards. Cost was about $75.

John,

Now THAT is the best idea I have heard in a long time.

Jay,

Been off line with houseguests for the holidays!
Will have to see if I have a pic and if not take one. It's also pretty darn cold around here right now so Ihope there is no rush - doesn't sound like it if you don't have a broken cover.

I will get abck to you and the list when I have something to show.

You did not describe the size and location of the break so this solution may or may not apply.
I had a 1/2" chip on one side of my Corian range cover when I purchased my coach. A dealer service tech at Holland Motor Homes, San Diego performed a clever trick. He cut out a semi circular notch in the same location on the opposite side. Then he made the chipped side match. The result is that now the symmetrical notches look as tough they were factory cut as finger holes to assist in lifting the cover. No one has ever noticed or commented on the notches as they they are symmetrically opposite and look quite natural.
BTW, I also purchased a maple cutting board that fits over the range top perfectly. We can now use both interchangeably as required. The large cutting board is pretty handy for use on a table outdoors as well.

Now that is a great idea too. Would you please explain regarding the large cutting board outside how you support it or do you put it on the picnic tables usually at RV spaces? And was it difficult to find a cutting board of that size since though I'm not in our coach, my memory says that it's a pretty good sized space. Thank you.

Above is a link to the product we used. I bought the version that is larger than the opening left by the broken Corian. I then had it cut to fit inside the opening and installed it so that it is flush with the Corian surface and exactly replaced the broken cover. It was cut to be a tight fit, does not move unless we make it do so and the wife loves it. Two notches were also necessary on the front of the cover to interface with the stove top - take a look at your rig and you will see what I am talking about. That was it to make it fit flush and should work for any similar Inspire - don't know about other models.
Remember you have burners under there. Corian doesn't burn. Wood can so don't just put any old chopping block material over the burners or you are introducing a danger. The Tepper Topper is treated to resist buring.
And, no, I have not tested it. ;-) But this product has been around a while and I trust it is as fire resistant as anything else so rated.

We do not take it outside but could.

The website works but then so does CC's. I believe Camping World also sells the same product but not all models.

Mary,

The board is large but it is not custom made to fit. I believe we purchased it at Costco but I have not seen them there lately. I used 3M photo mounting spray adhesive to apply a sheet of thin 1/16" foam shelf liner material to the backside. This material is available by the roll at Home Depot and Lowes. This makes the board non-skid for safety and convenience. I simply place it on top of the Corian range cover when needed. When not in use I store it in a cabinet above the combo washer/drier.
We use it outside on a white folding, plastic, serving/work table that has adjustable leg heights. That puts the working surface at the best height for your purpose. I always found that campsite picnic tables are to low creating back strain. Table source:Sams Club, About $50.
