Michelin XZE tires

To the Group,

I posted a few days ago reference ride height valves, and the group was a big help. We have owned a 2005 Allure since new. Although we review the CC group often I rarely post. I know many CC owners who do the same. I know other owners who never even check the CC group. I think we made a mistake not taking a more active part in the group as many others have. Most owners on the group are fantastic taking the time to help other owners. I just experienced that expert help recently. One member even gave me his phone number to get his opinion and advice.
With his help and others I was able to find JOSAMs in Orlando who will be replacing my ride height valves and check our shocks. We have the bottoming out problem most Allure owners have. Josam's will be attempting to solve that problem with ride height adjustment and possibly new front shocks. Berry at Josam's has recommended Michelin XZE 12R22.5s to replace our Toyos after I gave him the info from the Toyos. I intent to go with his recommendation unless anyone on the group has found something I do not know about the XZEs. I did keep previous posts about tires, and gave him other owners choices, and he still thought the XZE was best for our Allure. The XZEs are the same height, and only .2" narrower than our Toyos. The load range is the same. The posts were a while back and no one used the XZEs to get any feed back about them. Since these tires are very expensive, I was trying to find any info from other owners.
Josams is probably more expensive for the tires (8 tires mounted with new stems, etc - $5386 plus $350 to balance), but I am also looking for quality work as much as price. Sometimes cheaper isn't better.

Hi Gary,

Hope you have as great an experience as we did with Josam's. We just replaced our original Goodyears, that were seriously worn because of a poor factory alignment, with the Michelin XZA2 Energy tires. We have a difficult size 295/80R22.5 and this was pretty much our only Michelin choice for our size/load needs.
The Michelin's are really nice tires that really improved our ride. We paid a total of $5,782 at Boulevard Tire here in Jacksonville for the 8 tires installed.

I replaced my Toyos about 18 months ago with the XZEs. No regrets and along with new Koni FSD shocks, the ride is much improved. Your price for the 8 tires is just about the same I paid at Les Schwab in Junction City.

Gary, I swapped out my Toyos for the XZEs and I am very happy with the XZEs. In April of 2008, I paid $3700 for 6 of them (no tag)without new valve stems but they included spin balance. I now have 20,000 miles on them and have no regrets. They are smooth and quiet. I bought them at a Good Year dealer but I wasn't real impressed with their workmanship. One of my stipulations was that they allow me to be in the shop when they performed the work. I'm glad I was there because they were going to install the wheels on different positions which would have messed up my Smartire locations. I had marked each wheel's location to ensure they were reinstalled correctly and I had reminded them up front about the importance of their location. I also told them I wanted "fresh" tires and wanted to inspect the tire date codes before they installed them. My new tires were 3 months old when installed. These tires are rated for 75MPH and the Toyos were rated for 65MPH. They are rugged "regional" tires that run smooth and quiet and IMO, minimize the risk of a blowout when compared to other MH tires. I think you will enjoy them.

I would discuss one thing with the company your buying the new tires from. I assume there have not been any punctures, cuts on any of the tires. Those tires are worth money as trade in value. Resold to rock haulers, dump trucks, trailers. When I did the replacements they credited me $450.00 for the old tires. They were all piled up as a set.
Just something to discuss making the tire deal. If you don't bring it up they will be kind enough to dispose of the "old" tires for you. There are lots of truckers that cannot afford new tires.

A year ago more or less, Les Schwab, ordered me 8 XZ2 for my 04 Intrigue.
With replacing the 6 old Smart tire transmitters. the bill was Appox. $5300.00. That included balancing the front and tags. The tag tires had the series II transmitters already and Les Schwab traded my Series I receiver for the two of the new series transmitters. I Already had the Series II receiver from when I had added 4 transmitters for the Honda and 2 for the tag previously.
The XZE is a regional tire and has thicker side walls and an extra 1/16 " tread, compared to the XZ2, a highway tire.
As I live in the southwest Les Schwab was concerned with tire temps and tread stiffness. After you wear off that 1/16" the handling is very close. I think the Michelins are a big improvement over the Toyo, especially the quietness factor. They also installed new O rings on the wheel inflation stems. We checked the shocks for leaks and pulled the brake drums to check the brake shoes for wear. Of course the got me for new Batteries, but after 5 years I really couldn't complain about the extra cost incurred.

Gary, I replaced my Toyo's with the XZE's, I'm very happy with them, have about 25K miles on them, although I don't notice much difference in noise, ride or handling. I had all 8 balanced which was included in the price of $5,300 in Nov. of 2008.
