Cummins engine fuel lift pump leak

Yahoo Message Number: 56585
Hello folks!

Saw a wet spot under my engine today and discovered that my engine fuel lift pump is leaking. I have a seal kit for the lift pump, but it sure looks like a bear to get to for removal and reinstallation. Anyone ever remove one of these lifts pumps before? Any advice and tricks of the trade are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Larry,

Did mine about three years ago. Actually, it looks worse than it really is.
Most of the removal and install is done from above in the bedroom. Bolts are small, so little torque is needed. I think I did everything with a 1/4" drive ratchet, swivel and extension. You may have to go underneath to unhook lines/wires and for final egress of pump.
A second person would speed things up. One up top and the other underneath. I did mine alone and it took less than two hours. I also had no idea what the results were going to be before I started.

One last note, skinny arms will help.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I tightened the three bolts 1/8 - 1/4 turn) on top and did a leak check and so far, so good. I will keep an eye on it for a few days with my fingers crossed. Looking at it closer, it looks easier than I thought, as previously suggested.
