Hurricane problems and maybe an answer

The weather in Southeast Virginia turned very cold, so I fired up the Hurricane and it ran fine for about 40 seconds, then I got the dreaded Code 7 (Flame Out). Last year I did some work on the compressor and got it to operate for the winter. I pulled the compressor and it felt like it was not putting out quite the volume I expected. Last year I tried to buy a new compressor from ITR, but there were none available. Did a web search and found that Grainger had the "Thomas Model 007CDC13" available. Purchased one (very expensive) and installed it, lit off the system and got "Code 7" again. Called ITR and talked to a tech, he had me do some testing, see if it would run getting fuel from a separate source (gallon can), still got the same results. Checked the nozzle and the O-ring was nicked slightly and it was kind of brittle. I was going to order a new nozzle, but went to a local Hydraulic Shop and purchased new O-ring (size 007). Put the new O-ring on the nozzle and reinstalled and the thing ran like a champ.
I was thinking about the Cummins lift pump problems after ULSD was introduced, where the gasket shrank and got hard and leaked and wondered if maybe the same thing is happening to the O-ring on the nozzle. I can remember people saying they replaced the nozzle and the Hurricane would perform great. When I replaced the nozzle a few years ago it came with a NEW O-ring. So before you replace the nozzle try changing the O-ring and see if that works, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a nozzle.

i also have a hurricane problem, it burns for awhile then cycles off & on 2 or 3 times then the red light comes on , if i turn it off & back on the same thing happens. some times it works longer but i never get very warm air. i call it a summer heater.bob 6025 '02 Magna

Could need servicing. Clean the nozzle and replace the O ring. According to the ITR tech, the nozzles for the Hurricane don't need to be replaced as often as Aqua Hot's because it is a "...low pressure system." I have not changed mine yet. Just cleaned it.

Hey guys. This usually works for me when I get a flame out error on the Hurricaine. I got this 2 weeks ago and this procedure worked.
Take off the burner cover and the locate the wires for the flame sensor. I don't have the diagram. There are spade connectors. Disconnect the connectors and reconnect them. Put the cover on with 2 screws and see if it works. If it does, put the other 2 screws on.

Hope it's that simple for you too.

For some years now, I have had flame out troubles and have reseated the spade terminals which always fixed the problem. I was thinking I had a bad sensor but one of my best friends who is a boiler repair mechanic suggested I hard wire the sensor which I did. Infact I soldered the wires together just to be sure. Last summer was the first time in 4 years that I had a trouble free season.
