Need advise Country Coach Inspire Di Vinci 40

Yahoo Message Number: 66363
We are joining the RV world. I have been considering Newmar, but there are some great deals where I live on very low mileage 2006 Inspire Di Vinci.

Would appreciate any comments from Country Coach owners on the quality of the coach, features and any negatives on the coach. Is being an orphan coach a problem. Coach has Cat C9/400 so don't know if it is side radiator or not.

Any guidance would be really apprecated.

Thanks

We have a 2006 CC Di Vinci and for the most part have been very satisfied with the coach. The overall quality is better than the top end Winnebago motorhomes we had. From people we know, this is a better coach than Newmar.

The Cat engine, Dynamax Chasis and Allison trans are great. We get 6.7 to 7-7.8 mpg while towing a Buick Enclave at 65 mph+, depending on which way the wind is blowing. All these units have some bugs. We replaced our radiator and charge air cooler after three years. Several of the coaches had problems, and you should ask if this replacement has been made. This can cost up to $8,000. We also put in a wet PTO $500, and I had to replace our main AC this year for $1,400. Check the slides to see if your rooms have channels around them. CC built many of these coaches using a slide room vendor who used seamless construction and they had many problems with cracks. We had to take our coach back to CC, and they replaced all three slides in 2007.

This sounds like a lot of problems, but it isn't really when you are driving your house down the road. We have 75,000 miles on our unit and feel that we have another 10 years of relatively trouble free RVing. There are many good design features on the CC coaches. Electrical drawings are in great detail, and they run wires in a way so that it is relatively easy to trace electrical gremlins. The coach drives like a dream and seems as if you are sitting in your living room watching a travel video. Good luck with your purchase. I have a 2004 40' Da Vinci Inspire. Bought it new in 04', my first motorhome. It's been great fun. Issues? Bent awning roller on driver side (replaced by Extended Warranty), fogged up driver side window in cockpit (replaced by Progressive). Assorted minor issues during first year all fixed under warranty. No issues with my Cummins or Allison. That's it!

If one takes a tour of the Newmar facility, you will see that they build from the chassis Up in one day. When we visited Newmar in 2005 they were putting 11 to 15 units per day , off the line . Obviously , when the chassis was delivered to the floor that day , it was the chassis with the flooring done , but that's all. They put the side walls , the roof, the front and rear cap, including , all the appliances , all the cabinets, etc , on the unit in 1 DAY , I repeat 1 DAY,. Choose which coach you want to buy. They all have issues, so there is no getting around that. You take everything you have in your house ( and more ) and drive it down the road at 60 MPH. You can't expect it to be problem free. I have owned 3 Newmars ( before the factory tour - which they are proud of ) and 1 Monaco. CC wins hands down !!

We also have one, and for the most part, agree, very trouble free compared to many coaches our friends have. Count on replacing the radiator if that has not been done. Bad run on them about your year, and they leaked.
Don't know the issue on the "seamless" slides, that's the first I ever heard of that.
Other issues, we did have a fan controller failure at 33,000 miles. We did the wet kit on the PTO when we put in a new fan controller, but our shaft was perfect, did it anyway.
A few electrical gremlins, but nothing serious and easy fixes. Our AC's have been fine.
We had a Bounder and an Alfa. This coach is head and shoulders above them both. Quality is grand and we would absolutely do it again. Owned this since new. We tow a race car trailer much of the time, and does beautifully. C-9 works well. I know some folks have had issues, but ours has been flawless.

I'm not so sure the radiator replacement is a given, unless the leak problem was specific to the 2006. Mine is a late 2005, and we have the steel radiator.
One of our members posted a great observation a few months ago: if the radiator is seamless at the ends, it is prone to failure; if the ends are bolted, it is the steel model.
It is simple to check by looking through the left rear grille - - check for multiple (many?) small bolt heads on the radiator.
It might have been the luck of the draw for us as some '05's had the leaks.

Jay: Our coach is only 15 units after yours (assuming it went straight-line at the factory) and our radiator leaked.
We had it replaced, partially paid for under warranty, and received a bonus result in better cooling characteristics.

Jay,

My coach number 51428 and I had to replace the radiator @ 13,000 miles. Most of the labor was covered by extend warranty. I did not have to pay for the radiator as I beat up Specialty Radiators in Sacramento until the built me a free replacement.
It seems a lot of the units needed a radiator replacement at some point.
