Tire Monitoring

Sorry if this is a repeat of previous thread, but tried to pick and choose out of the archives on the Smart Tire issues and am reasonably confused.

1. Smart Tire is, or is not, now available to RV's?
2. I am changing tires after 6 years (I assume the life expectancy of the ST batteries?), I understand you cannot refresh the batteries but now have to go to a whole new system? For a young capitalist, seems like an great opportunity to create a way . . . Do I flush the $2k I spent on the system away and start over?

3. Any systems out there as good for replacement?

Yep, Smart Tire no longer supports the RV market. The first generation system is a dinosaur. The batteries are no longer available.
The second generation is no longer supported, however you might find some parts available. I suggest calling Bob Dickman in JC and see what they have.
The Dornan Pressure Pro is a system that Silverleaf can be programmed to work with.

I was told the batteries can't be changed, so I intend to run them until they are depleted. Then I'll buy more sensors for my existing HawksHead TPM system which is now providing tire pressure and tempurature readings for my towed. I like the HawksHead because the owner can change the batteries plus it provides temperature, albeit not that accurate from the valve stem, but a good reference point.

I don't believe the "challenge" is finding batteries for the transmitters............the challenge is how to "melt down" the transmitter to remove the old battery and install a new one and then "reform it".
At my last inspection, the transmitter is a "black box", with the battery and electronics molded together as "one".

My ST has been on my 04' Inspire since 05' and working fine. I had a tire change out two years ago.

Well after 7 years, it appears that my Monitors inside the tires are starting to go bad.
Not all the time, but more than I like, one or two of them start acting up and registering weird readings. Like a minus 12 degrees while driving down the road. According to my Silverleaf.
Since it cost about $80 apiece for them, plus tire removal and such, I was wondering if anyone here has installed the outside Tire monitoring system, but yet maintained the ability of the silverleaf to read and display the results? i'm trying not to have another display unit on my dash or side window.

Dave, while my Smart Tire sensors seem to holding up for now, I have wondered when they will quit. I believe Kevin Waite has some sensors.

That said, I had a TST tire monitoring system on my previous coach. I still have it and may want to try it on the Allure if necessary. I will say I am not convinced any of the external systems are worth the trouble. I had problems with the sensors and while TST replaced several of them under warranty, it was just a PITA to constantly be switching them out. TST has a new system with newer sensors and some folks say it works pretty well.

I had a 05 Inspire that did not come with TMPS and I bought the Pressure Pro system which has worked very well. I now have an 08 Intrigue and discovered that the Pressure Pro system is the only system that works with the VMS/SilverLeaf system but you may have to add a link that SilverLeaf can help you with. My SmartTire system is beginning to fade and I didn't want to try to get SmartTire sensors for my car so I moved all my PressurePro sensors (on the valve stem) to the Intrigue and I get a read out on the dash VMS.
