Carefree of Colorado Awning Strap Replacement - '04 CC Intrigue "Sui

I need to replace four awning straps i.e. the living area slide on the driver's side and the bedroom slide on the passenger's side. It is not as easy as I envisioned and as told by the dealer who sent me the replacement straps free of charge.
In order to remove the straps which are attached by a rubber stopper on one end, it seems that I need to remove the attachment arms on the side of the coach supporting the awning so that I can extend the roller all the way until it stops so that I can remove the uncurled straps. Other than that, they are still curled inside the fabric when I try to remove them.
Has anyone else tackled this job? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tom,

If your Intrigue is the same as my Inspire you shouldn't have to remove anything to replace the straps.
There is a groove in the roller that they slide into. Simple job (even for me).

I tied ropes to the arms to hold down the awning while installing the new strap. Worked for me, but made me think that there has to be an easier way.
