Vermont Visit

I am headed for Vermont for some leaf viewing around end of Sept thru the 2nd week of October. Does anyone know the general status of the roads and campgrounds in the northern part of the state? Also, any advice on where to stay, etc. would be very much appreciated.

We stayed earlier in the year @ Limehurst RV Campground in Williamstown, Vt. 05679. We liked the CG very much, owners were great, close to Mont Pelier. Located just off Hwy 14 and could be effected by flooding. Hwy 14 runs parallel to I-89. Great park in August. I would call to see if still operational. This area is in the middle of the fall leaves according to the natives.

My brother and family live in Springfield, VT, and they also have a cabin on Lake Willoughby in northeastern Vermont. The town Westmore is where I checked on rvparkreviews.com, and having seen the campground called White Caps Campground www.whitecapscampground.com several times, we'd stay there if we didn't have our family's camp nearby. Lake Willoughby is one of the most beautiful lakes we've ever seen --- it's a very deep glacial lake with granite walls in a couple of spots going way up, 2 mountains with great hiking, and a wonderful lake to kayak. Also, near Hanover, NH along with Queechee, VT, there are a couple of good campgrounds. A state forest campground called Collidge State Forest on Route 100A east of Rutland is fabulous! The problems you may run into have to do with the flooding which truly devastated some parts of Vermont. Calling ahead is mandatory now I'd say for that reason and for the fact that it is so gorgeous out there in the fall (anytime really) and lots of leaf peepers are there at the same time, though I don't know about how many of them are campers. Have a great time and let us know what you find out regarding how the state is doing at least with campgrounds after the floods.

Mary mentioned Queechee, VT. I just saw a video of the Queechee Covered Bridge. The road going through it was completely wiped out. The video looked like a waterfall going through the center of the bridge. Other main road bridges videoed looked the same--like waterfalls. I'd check your entire route carefully. But can't think of a more beautiful trip for the Fall; enjoy.
