steering thump

Going down the road irregular road surfaces cause us to wander. Just replaced the ends of the pitman arm. Moving the steering wheel back and forth I hear thumps going down the road and also stationary when the engine runs..
Any ideas what the thumps are and maybe they can be involved in the wander.

The pitman arm is a one piece item. I suspect you changed the tie rod ends, or the drag link ends. You need to get under the coach with someone turning the wheel back and forth to determine what is clunking. That is probably the easiest way.

Mine thumped like that too and after tightening the sway bars it went away, only to return to the thumping a few thousand miles down the road. I finally put a lock nut on both sides, and the problem hasn't returned. This is the verticle bolt with two 1" thick rubber bushings attaching the sway bar to the wheel, located on the back side of the front wheels. Never was able to find the specified torque, but don't crush the rubber bushings too much. Maybe 1/2?
