White Exhaust when starting

I live in Traverse City, Mi and the weather is getting cooler, 38to44 deg at night. I've had to move our coach, 2003 Allure 370, several times to hook-up our new Blue Ox towing system.
Each time I've stsrted the engine I've noticed that the exhaust was white, it lasted for around 20-30 seconds then cleared up.I know the transfer pump was replaced last November. Anyone have a clue as to what can be causing this? Or is it the cooler weather having an effect. Thanks, John/Jackie 03 Allure 30951

Hi John,

You don't say what engine you have. Is it a Cummins? If so I'll try to explain what the problem might be.

Your Cummins has a couple of electric heaters inside the intake manifold. When the weather gets cold, and you are starting the engine cold, these heaters will heat the intake air to reduce the white smoke.
When you turn on the ignition switch a "Wait To Start" light should show up in the dash for a few seconds then go off. If the intake heaters are needed (cold outside) the light will stay lit until the heaters have warmed enough to do their job. The colder it is the longer you will need to wait. If you don't wait for the light to go out you will get the white smoke.
If you don't see the light it may be burned out. Take a look the next time you go to start the engine. Just turn to switch far enough to turn on the ignition but not far enough to operate the starter. Regardless of the air temp the light will show up for a couple of seconds before going out.
