Cable master for power cord problem

Yahoo Message Number: 86222
The cable master for the power cord has begun to act up---it slows down on the retracting. I can extend and retract intermittenly until it finally comes on in but not always. This begins when there is about 4 feet of cord left out. Is there any first echelon maintenance I can do on this thing? Thanks!

Janie,

Several years ago our power cord got tangled inside the box or drum (depends on your installation)and would not come out very far. I had to disassemble the box to untangle it. A very time consuming project.
After that, I called the mfg. and they said to periodically run the cord all the way out straight on the ground, and then let it straighten and untwist itself as it reels back in. Since I got this tip, I have noticed that over time the cord has become twisted (like a water hose) as it comes out. This is when I run it all the way out and let it straighten and untwist itself as it goes in. I sure don't want it to "lock up" in there again.

If you can get the entire cord out, try this.
Good luck, as this is an easy "first echelon maintenance" if it works for you.
