Direct Tv

Since this subject is coming up again, I have a question for those who have Direct TV.

I have the TracStar SV360 dome antenna on my coach and I have Direct TV. At the present time I only have one working Direct Box working. the other one failed and I'm looking to replace it with the newer box. For those that have or move their HD/DVR box to the coach. Do you have the dome antenna or have you changed to the more modern antenna U see on the stick homes? If you have a dome antenna, did U have to change anything to use the DVR feature? Thanks
Dave

If you want HD Channels then you have to go with the new modern Dish such as an SL3 which can pick up Sats 99 & 103 which are the HD Sats.
The old Dome Dish is not equipped to be able to pick up signals from the new HD Sats 99 & 103.

To get HD tv from DTV in your coach you need to get a HD antennae system from either Weingard or RFMogul. I replaced my MotoSat with a RFMogul antennae and ran into a couple of issues. Direct TV is moving to a new technology called SWM and RFMogul elected to design their antennae around the new technology. Therefore I had to buy a new DVR and Receiver that was compatible with the new SWM technology.

Dan, will the new SWM make the MotoSat HD antenna's non-functional? If yes, when. As of 2 weeks ago mine was fine. RFMogul will be a vendor at the Country Coach International (CCI) Rally in Cody, WY, in June.

I don't understand the nuances of the new SWM system. I was told that the new DTV receivers and DVR's are coming out with the new SWM technology and that the RFMogul system was designed for that technology. The new system does requires the receiver and Dish to talk to each other thru an electrical connection. When I decided to go with the RFMogal I had to go with a new receiver and DVR.
When MotoSat quit answering the phone and failed to return controllers sent to them for repair I decided I would switch on my terms not when it broke somewhere in the hinterlands like in Montana when I spend the summer. The RFMogul guys are the ones who originally started MotaSat so they do have an extensive background in the area.

Thanks Dan. I did some looking around and got the impression the MotoSat setup will be good for the near future but eventually go dark as SWM (actually (Single Wire Multiswitch or SWiM, which has been around since 2007) takes hold and DTV pulls the switch. I also gathered that SWM will expand options and capabilities, and I suppose cost the customer more $.
