Pines (Amish) Cooling Unit

Yahoo Message Number: 90507
I had a Pines Cooling Unit installed back in January replacing the NorCold 1200 unit. Recently I have noticed that the cooling fans stay on most of the time. I have the temp set at 5 but the same if I set it to 3. It is cooling OK on either setting. They just seem to be always on. Is this normal?

You might want to validate a few of the key functions:

1) Do a diagnostic to ensure the control board is behaving properly. (I'll look for it later, but if you Google norcold 1200 + diagnostics, you should find the link to how to do this.)
2) Paper dollar, or a twenty if your feeling lucky! Close the door with a bill in at different parts around the door, and test that you have good resistance via the gasket seal pressing the bill into the frame.

3) When was the last time you had the LP Burn Chamber serviced? (If this is on LP vs plugged into shore power.)

The fans have thermocouples that dictate when they should turn on. Did the installer retain the older units, or add new ones along with the cooling unit install?
Those are the items that come to mind, but others have much more experience then I do with these things - suspect you'll get other good advice.
I also called and asked for help, as my fans were never seeming to turn on, and the gent (memory fade, but I believe it was David Force) that sold me my Amish Cooling Unit - was very nice and concise on walking this rookie thru the process to pin point a bad fan install by the tech's that helped me with my unit. Never hurts to make a call.
Best of luck, and please close the loop back and let us know what turns out to be Root Cause...

Mike - There is a temperature switch that can be installed in several positions. On the OEM cooling unit, it was installed on one of the fins of the condenser. The finned unit all the way at the top. JC Refrigeration has been experimenting with placing this temperature sensor in other positions. Here's a photo of the "newer" location: http://muniac.smugmug.com/Maintenance/Another-Frig-Melt-Down-1142012/i-dTsBB7b/0/M/IMG_3681-M.jpg The reason for the change was to improve the performance of the fan's cycle. IE more on/off and less continuous running. The first Pines RV Refrigeration CU ran the fans more continuously.

This isn't a problem beyond putting more hours on the bearings in the fans. The connections coming from the control board provide DC to the fan circuit. To the best of my knowledge this isn't switched. The series connected temperature switch is what turns the fans on/off. As for installer problems, well those are always a possibility. Unless you do the work yourself or micro manage the job you're not sure what was done. Good luck.

Best - Scott
