Cruise Control intermittent problem

I have a 1996 CC Affinity that has a cruise control issue. It works but then shuts off, I reset, works, shuts off. Anyone have advice? Thanks,

Hi had this issue myself it sounds like you need a clock spring in your steering wheel. This needs to be done buy a confident individual and knows how to install and adjust them properly

I had the same problem with my 2000 Affinity. Quit using cruise control and then started having shifting issues. Problem turned out to be that the engine, transmission, etc. computers were not passing "speed" information along the J1939 data communications link due to a bad "terminal resistor." The data link was made up of two blue twisted 20g wires with an exposed/twisted (shield like) wire running the length of the coach to which all the important dada sources were connected so they could communicate.

Sorry I can't remember the details, but a CC tech told me to measure the resistance between two specific terminals of one of the Allison service ports in the service bay. I found the bad terminal at the end of the "data circuit" in the "run bay" below the drivers seat, unplugged the terminal containing the bad resistor and plugged in the new one. Cost was under $10. (I knew what I was looking for because the rear terminal and twisted pair was clearly visible along the passenger side frame rail just inside the engine compartment and when disconnected, that resistor measured ok.)

I'm thinking I measured at "C" and "D" on the larger service port, but a knowledgeable service person should advise where to test and the ohms to look for, etc. Good luck!

Yes, that sounds correct. I was told that the control board is in the engine compartment in a silver metal box. Could it be a control board issue and can they still be ordered? Rob

What year CC do you own that had the same issue? My cruise is set with toggle switches on the left side armrest.

Kevin,

Just got off the phone with King Cruise and he thought that since it will work when I hit resume it was more likely to be a grounding or brake switch issue. Do you concur with that? Do you know where grounds for the braking system are located and where the brake switch is? Thanks,

PS I met you once at Brian's place when my transmission quit on me as I was leaving. Turned out to be a fuse by the battery.
