Inverter power

If your inverter is on when you unplug from "shore power" do you loose power during the switch? I ask my mechanic about it he said you will loose power for an instant. I don't remember it that way on our Intrigue.
Thanks

According to the operating manual for our RV2012 inverter, there is a 20 millisecond delay between the time the power drops and the inverter takes over. Most devices can handle a small delay like that. Our entertainment devices and computer networking devices don't notice the switch.

My computer doesn't take the switch, it shuts off. I tried a UPS but it doesn't like the "dirty power". If I remember correctly our Intrigue didn't do that but the mechanic says its normal. I don't believe it is.

Which inverter model do you have? What kind of computer is it?

Do you know which model Heart 2500? I don't have much experience with Dell computers ( I worked for IBM for 25 years) but if the inverter is indeed switching in 25 milliseconds, the computer should stay up. If you have the RV2012 inverter and it is not switching in 25 milliseconds then it has a problem. I would suggest calling Xantrex to confirm the switching time and then call Dell to find how how long a transfer time the computer can handle.

If the problem is not correctlable, ie everything is working as designed, you could try using another inverter to power the computer that is tied directly to the DC in the coach.
