Scott Riggs Heritage Coach

Coach sitting next to us this week here in Biloxi at the AFB Fam Camp belongs to Scott Riggs, NASCAR driver, and we noted how easy it was to get into the lower bins with the doors opening sideways not upwards. Wonder if Jay Howard of Country Coach is aware of this and how preferable it is to get into the storage bins.

I don't see it as a definite advantage. For example, we park our CC 30" from a retaining wall alongside our driveway, which allows our passenger-side bay doors to open all the way up, yet allow our cars to pass alongside the driver's side of the coach. If the bay doors swung open, as you described, we'd have to park further away (since the doors are longer than they are tall), thereby intrude into our driveway. A similar situation would result when parking alongside a power pedestal or other obstruction in a CG.

The ideal solution is to have doors mounted on pantographic hinges, as on Prevosts. If our CC had 'em, we could park even closer to our wall.

I'll bet if you called Jay he would be glad to sell you a new '06. I agree with Dick, I think the side opening would just be a different set of problems. Even the pantagraphic (sp?) doors wouldn't be much help on our coach with 3 slides. There is no way those doors would open under a slide. I'm happy with my open up doors and rolling trays.

Different strokes for different folks, again...
We also prefer the top openings for ease of full openings when next to trees, pedestals, etc. We've seen rigs that can't access things well with the side openers...also don't like the pantograph hinges since you lose quite a few inches of space on the interior dimensions for them when you really measure things out.
I guess we like our old stuff the way it is...nothings perfect for all of us.
