Furnace fan problems

We are hearing weird noises out of our furnace fan, sounding like it is trying to change speeds, which I am assuming means that a bearing is going bad. This is on a 1997 Intrigue. Question is has anyone else experienced a similiar situation and what was the result? Question also is how in the world do you get to the fan without tearing out a kitchen cabinet? The furnace is located back in a corner under the kitchen range.
