Cracked Charge Air Cooler

Just found out from Cummins NW that our Charge Air Cooler is cracked and that caused the Intake Manifold to also Crack. CC parts quoted $2900 and 4 to 6 weeks lead time for a NEW Radiatior/CAC assembly. Kinda rough for full timers to wait 4 to 6 weeks to get a replacment part. Maybe a weld repair is an option, whihc I'm not in favor of, but we would still be out of the Coach for two weeks.....

No more washboard gravel roads in Mexico for Us ! ! ! Happiness

I doubt that the roads had anything to do with it. My CAC failed in the 2nd year of ownership, I'm on my third one now. The CC tech told me that Radiator Specialists had a bad run of them back then...could be your problem as well.

Lee, our Magna has never been to Mexico and we too have a crack in our CAC. The CC tech's put a patch on it but it is not working.

Ray I cannot believe you are on your third CAC repair/fix! How does this cost? Where did you have it fixed? Laura/Magna 5874

The first one was replaced by Desert West in Phoenix, CC's vendor shipped a replacement. I paid the freight and the labor. Labor was around 18 hours to remove and replace the CAC plus remove the radiator and send that out for repair. The next one was replaced by Cummins South East in Tampa, Florida. This one was fully covered by CC since it had been only a few months since the 2nd one had been installed.
Not sure what caused the first two to fail but I have been running with the third one for a little over two years now without further trouble as far as I know.

The cost for replacing the first one was somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000 for labor and shipping.
